Comment:

Dr. Shouse is the type of professor that I still occasionally email from time to time just to catch up. She makes this class extremely passable if you put forth the effort and study prior to the exam. Nothing crazy, nothing surprising. She tells you in advance when anything is due. I would definitely recommend her and this class to anyone.

Lectures with power points every class. PP uploaded to westernonline before exams. Should read chapters and readings but dont have to read all of them. She tells you what questions from the readings will be on the exam so you can prepare in advance. Few papers due on readings. Final not comprehensive. Overall easy and fair.

Outspokenly liberal but you can still get an "A" in her class if you are prepared to support your opposing views with facts and coherent arguments on term papers. One of the harder political science classes I took at Western.

As a Women's Studies Teacher she was my favorite teacher of my first semester at WIU. I loved her insight on the subject. I would highly recommend her. She does grade papers hard on the grammatical side, but it is based all on your opinion and your creativity. She was AWESOME!

She is a good teacher! she is a hard grader on papers but just follow what she asks and you should atleast get a B. Class is not mandatory, but i would go because its easier that way. Lecture are interesting. Test are okay. Take her because i hear the other WS teachers are horrible!

Dr.Shouse is really nice and very friendly, she is a really good teacher and her tests are very easy. She only requires that you type 2 papers for the year and you only have 3 exams including the final which is your last test. She also has no attendance policy. I highly recommend taking her, she is great, definitely a very doable to get an A

She is sooo boring! I fall asleep every time I'm in her class. Very dull and she doesn't make the class fun...at all! I swear, this lady LOVES to hear herself talk. All she does it stand in front of the board and TALK, TALK, TALK. I hate her class so much. DO NOT TAKE HER! Oh, and her notes sucks!

I wan not going to comment until I read the previous comments. The other ratings must have been from someone who did not attend her class very much. She is indeed very helpful, her notes while they sometimes ramble, she is more than qualified to teach this course. If you only show up for class the day of tests, how can you comment on her?

very dull and unskilled in her area of supposed expertise. I was very disapointed, high school and community college professors easily put her to shame. She was mainly interested in reminising on her southern roots and its superiority to Illinois culture, unbelievable. Why she hasn't been terminated is beyond our understanding!!!

She is a great teacher. Loves what she does, and has great stories to tell. She is liberal which for me is a plus, but she does let the other side have a word in. And one can't tell she is liberal unless you ask, or later on in the middle of the course she says so. Great to get along with

You don't need the gov't text book, but you do need the Taking Sides book. She is the best teacher I have ever had. I didn't like gov't before, but I would take any class that she taught just because she is so fascinating. She made EVERYTHING interesting. This class isn't bad at all for a W course. No attendance policy. Really great class and prof!

She makes sure to explain everything very well. She has an interesting way of teaching the class, in that she assigns writing assignments throughout the semester which all tie together in the end. She gives a study guide for tests as well which are very helpful.

I was not expecting to like political science but I enjoyed this class and learned something. Writings are easy if you stick to the facts and answer the question, and she pretty much tells you exactly what to study for the test. Great teacher!
