Professor Drozd is passionate about Russia and Eastern Europe. He wants his students to succeed and is willing to help. Russian is extremely difficult, so don't take his class unless you're willing to make the effort. Going to class is a must to do well, but I always enjoyed class time. He teaches the culture as well as the language which I enjoyed

I took his Tolstoy class and it was easily one of my favorite classes. There is a lot of reading, and we wrote 7 papers, but his grading criteria was very clear (I didn't make less than a 95 on any paper), and if you go to class, do the reading, and pay attention, you will do well. His lectures are engaging, and he's very approachable. Great guy!

Dr. Drozd is a wonderful professor - he knows exactly what he teaches, and he teaches in a very clear, well-organized way. You'll be fine if you miss a class or two, but missing more than that affects both your participation and your understanding of the material negatively. There's a good amount of work, but if you try - you'll probably get an A.

Professor Drozd is the sole reason I stuck with the language past the minimum requirement. He's a somewhat easy grader, but don't think that means you can get away with crap. As with all foreign language, expect a lot of homework and strenuous out-of-classroom commitment. But Professor Drozd is the kind of guy you want teaching all your courses.

Professor Drozd is the only reason I continued in my Russian language studies. He is so helpful in and out of class and truly wants his students to do well. He is a fair grader. Be prepared to spend time outside of class studying and to complete the daily homework assignments. His objectives are very straightforward. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Dr. Drozd is the best. I love his class, and I wish he taught my other classes. He's the only teacher at UA who I've felt takes a personal interest in me, my academic performance, and my future. It's gotten to the point where I actually feel really bad the two or three times I've missed his class over the past two years.Take Russian!Take Dr. Drozd!

He is the main reason I have continued taking Russian. He teaches from the book, but relates it in a way that is understandable. He goes out of his way to help his students and has a passion for teaching. Russian is difficult to learn, but he's the best guy for teaching it.

He's a very good, clear, knowledgeable, and helpful language professor. He has a good sense of humor and plenty of interesting and funny anecdotes about Russian culture. This class isn't easy, but what can you expect? RUSSIAN isn't easy. You get out of it what you put in and it's worth it.

I've taken 101-102 with Drozd so far. Absolutely amazing class! One of the best teachers I've ever had. If you don't plan to take Russian seriously, don't bother taking it. I'm fluent in Spanish, and Russian is easily twice as hard to learn. As I said though, if you plan to actually LEARN the language, I don't think there are any better out there.

I had Dr. Drozd for a class on Dostoevsky. It was truly one of the best courses I've ever taken. Extremely knowledgable and keenly interested in the writer and his intellectual millieu, Drozd presented Dost.'s life and thought with great clarity and enthusiasm.

I took 4 semesters of Russian and I came to dread his classes! He rarely cut anyone any slack in pronunciation or grammer and was like a drill sergeant when it came to writing. He is a very clear teacher and is quick to tell you what his expectations are in the class. If you plan to take russian as a leisure credit or to satisfy a prerequisite I would urge you to take spanish or french. If you are serious about the language, then they dont make teachers any better than Drozd.
