Comment:
This is a tough course, certainly not made any easier by the fact that you are forced to use only his unconventional methods if you want credit for your work. Clear guidelines are not given for any written assignments, and all of his emails and responses come from assistants, not the professor. 10/10 would NOT take him again.

The professor extorts students into purchasing his 'notes' from the bookstore each semester to line his own pocket and those of the university. This is unethical behavior and should be prohibited.

Dr. Arize's textbook is amazing and a must have. This is one of the best courses I have taken so far. Tests are challenging but if you have done your homework you will be fine. I really enjoyed the lectures and the amount of class participation.

I was a bit afraid of taking ECO578 when I first read some of the comments about Dr. Arize. However, it was honestly one of the best university class I've ever taken. I learned to love stats! Dr. Arize's textbook is amazing. He also takes the time to go over the material during class. His exams are fair and he does want you to succeed! Great prof!

Incredible professor, don't let other's deter you. Does take a lot of effort. Good: cares for his students, very knowledgeable, fair, has TA's that reply quickly, great book. Bad: Long-winded lectures can be hard to follow (min 1.5hrs), but are key to pass, three tests take a long time to complete (4hrs prepared). Bottom line: tough, worth it.

This will be an unpopular opinion reading the rest of the reviews. Buy the book, start on page one and work through the problems. By the time you finish the problems you should have a base knowledge of how to complete the work. The lectures are long and he hand walks you through questions that are on the test. Overall this class was not that hard

Not a good professor at all. Makes you buy his book (about $200), which he changes every semester and is required becasue his test questions are in it. Tests are unnecessarily long and complex, especially for a summer online course. Does not communicate well at all and is almost 100% dependant on his "assistant". Avoid if possible.

the most difficult professor, does't answer questions in the class live. spent $200 on textbook for a 4 week summer class. skipped most of the stuff from the book and exams were full fledged even it was summer. spent 15-20 hours on each homework/exam he doesn't explain your score. felt like a high school teacher came to teach graduate level course.

Very difficult professor that requires a book pulbished by him to pass the class ($200 and can't buy used, as he has different versions/editions). Said book uses formulas unconventionally from the norm, and his live lectures are incoherent, can't articulate himself properly. Very TA dependent, which is ok but they esentially run his class for him.

This was my most difficult class to date. He is fair and very intelligent but is hard to understand at times and expectations on the journal project were a bit unclear. Getting an A in this class is definitely possible but you will have to work hard for it. I got an A on each exam but they took me 10-17 hours to finish. The book is a must to pass.

Hes just not good at teaching or even communicating. Usually will not answer questions and will accuse you of not studying if you do. Has unique ways of conducting different equations but cannot communicate them well. I learned the material from the book before class and left the class more confused then when i started. 10 hour take home tests.

This man is horrible! If TAMUC really valued the students perception, Dr. Arize SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING THIS CLASS! He wrote the book required (200$)-never used it. Tests posted Fri due Mon (IT TAKES AT LEAST 16HOURS FOR EACH TEST FOR 20+ QUESTIONS). Lectures are pointless (erratic topic jumping, heavy accent). Very ARROGANT. TAs run the class!

Is 3rd most published in A&M-System. His journal is the "book" requirement ($175.00). He does have a much simpler formula. But, I cannot understand what he is saying! And, he always get's off topic, and ask, where was I, oh yea. He acts crazy (ok with me) as long as I learn but his methodology is scattered. THIS IS A SELF TAUGHT STATISTICS COURSE

Professor Arize provided online lectures and usually homework was assigned right afterwards. His tests are pretty long and is assigned to be done over the course of the weekend. The book is an absolute must in my opinion to pass his course. Definitely a tough course but as long as you set time aside to put in the work, you will be fine. Good luck!

I enjoyed this class. Professor Arize offers a challenging class and what is expected of graduate level courses. Many of the comments are accurate, exams do take the weekend, you'll need to buy the course book (warning: don't buy on Amazon, questions change each semester), and weekly lectures are long (he spends time teaching). You'll learn a lot.

Paraphrased quotes from Dr. Arize: "A student that focuses on their work will be successful and can make a lot of money. Sitting around and flipping CNN, that is simply entertainment, studying creates a transformation" "This weekend, if Sally or John, or Susie say to you, oh, there is something fun and wonderful to do, tell them to go to hell"

This professor requires his own 'class notes' instead of a textboox and charges $250 for material that is plagiarized from actual textbooks. His lectures are incomprehensible. Tests are ridiculously long, requiring 10 hours. And when students ask for clarification on something, he accuses them of cheating. Texas A&M needs to get rid of this guy.

This was the worst class I have taken at TAMUC. The professor's lectures were incoherent, scattered, and hard to understand; i ended up teaching myself using the book. I still got an A in the class, but i would suggest avoiding this professor if you can. I can't fathom why others have rated this professor highly. Baffles me. 15 hour tests.

He writes his own textbook for the class which can be difficult to understand if you do not watch the ClassLive lectures. There are three exams, a journal article and a homework assignment. If you do the practice problems in the book you will do fine on the tests. It was a difficult class but definitely passable if you try.
