There are no online notes, study guides, presentations, review sessions or additional material. He grades the essays quite harshly and provides no feedback whatsoever. With only a midterm and a final, this can be detrimental to your grade.

he don't have any notes and ppt during the class. you should take notes just by listening.. and he grades the essays so strictly. His class is almost B average or lower...

Professor Baack is an awesome teacher who really enjoys the subject matter that he is teaching and communicates it very clearly to students. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in economic history (i.e ECON 515 and 516). Don't need a textbook, but have to go to lecture (or borrow someone's notes) to get the material.

First of all, you must go to class for this. He doesn't use powerpoints so you can only get notes based off of lectures. However, I thought was a great professor. Lectures were clear and organized and the exams were 5 essay question options, you pick 3. Based on my notes, I thought the exams were pretty easy. Don't get the book, never used it once

Wise man, however as a professor he doesn't give his students a base to go off of for exams. Broad subject matter, no homework or quizzes

Don't buy book. Lectures organized half of the time, other half very hard to follow. Grades exams really tough. Class graded on a curve. Hard GEC. Not a lot of work during the quarter, but a lot of cramming before midterm and final (only two grades). I have heard there are easier profs teaching 515 so try and take them first.

Just don't take Econ 530 with Baack, not if you are remotely interested in the subject and don't want to be majorly turned off. He may be smart, but he also inserts his politics into his teaching, doesn't show up to his own office hours, and makes class extremely difficult to follow. I regret taking this class with him.

Really interesting professor, if you're slightly interested in economic history, the class will not be boring...everything on exams comes from his lectures so you don't need the book. But make sure to pay attention and write good notes in class because the exams are fairly thorough.

Very knowledgeable about what he's teaching. Materials are somewhat challenging and everything on exam comes from lecture so you will have to go to class and take notes. Lectures can be boring at times but overall you will learn a lot, especially if you're into the subject. Overall I recommend Prof. Baack.

Baack is one of those professors to take if you are interested in the material. He has so many interesting things to say. The exams are drawn directly from lecture material so make sure you show up, they are also sort of difficult. There was a substantial (15-20pg) term paper for this course as well. Nothing but good things to say about Baack.

Baack is a great teacher and a fantastic guy (toot toot toot)! He knows his stuff and is willing to help. However, 530 is super boring, he lectures with no slides, and exams are 100% of the grade. Study hard, go to every lecture, and you should be fine. Take him if you get a chance!

Seems easy, but exam is graded really tough. Fun class, lots of stories. Took the 515 class as a freshman though. Might be easier for upperclassman. Fun guy, but be sure to be VERY THROUGH on the exam (as it is the only thing he grades on).
