Comment:
Prof. Hanks amazed me with how knowledgeable he was on the subject--he seemed to have an anecdote about or know someone who was researching basically everything covered. Though the material wasn't always super interesting, his lectures were entertaining. Exams were open note/book with hint sheets and easy paper grader. Incredibly easy gen ed.

Hanks is an amazing professor. While you have to do the textbook quizes, the tests are open book and open note online. The only difficult part of the class was the grant proposal we had to write. I took more classes just to have him again.

Dr. Hanks is awesome. In the lectures I went to, and there weren't many, he was funny and tried to keep it interesting though the material wasn't. Online tests guarantee you an A pretty much, recitations were a joke, and lectures were probably 40% full. Must take as a gen-ed.

He's a funny dude. Online exams, and he'll bump your grade up a bit if you don't miss more than two recitations.

One of the few professor I have had so far that truly displays their passion for their field. Prof Hanks gives great lectures and is even really funny at times! Clear grading: 3 exams (always gives hint sheets), 3 quizzes, and 2 assignments. Tests for my class were open note and had choice to take in class on paper w/ scantron or at home on laptop.

Hanks is a really cool guy. He's hilarious and very passionate about Archaeology. You can tell he really wants everyone to do well in his class. 3 exams all online, 2 papers, and 3 quizzes in recitation. Definitely an easy A and would highly recommend taking him.

Simply put, Hanks is the man when it comes to Anthroplogy gen eds. He's extremely knowledgeable and is really passionate about archaeology. Tests are all online and he encourages the use of the book/notes. You can get away with not going to class by reading, but I have no idea why you'd want to skip one of his great lectures.

Wants everyone to pass. The way he teaches is perfect for either archaeology students or gen ed students. The three exams were offered online or in class, open note - even the final! Recitation taught vocab related to class. Projects, a presentation and a 4-5 page research proposal, were extremely vague, but easy enough.

Great professor. Makes it so that everyone gets a good grade. Really knows what he is talking about. Attendance is pretty mandatory since he only puts general outlines of powerpoints online. Recommend class highly!

Hanks is a great professor. He really tries to make it so everyone can get a good grade. He's always been available for help whenever I've asked for it. Hint sheets make the exams an easy A. He really puts a lot of time into grading papers too. One of the best profs I had this semester

EASY, easy class. He is fun and tries to keep lecture interesting, and he understands that people take the class because it is easy. Lectures are not necessary to go to but I would recommend going to recitation. His lecture notes often do not make sense, but he gives a review sheet before exams that pretty much lays out what is on the test.

Definitely go to lecture and recitation. Even though they aren't 'required' they are really important for the tests (even though he puts the lecture material online). Also he has a wicked accent which makes everything more interesting. His tests are very general and he gives you a detailed study guide/hint sheet which makes the exams easy As.

This class was actually really enjoyable and interesting. Tests are easy as long as do the hint sheet he offers and study the sample exam he gives in the beginning of the semester. Really easy to understand, and lectures are straight forward. I'd recommend this class to anyone in need of an Anthro class or an elective.

Grades papers harshly, but overall decent teacher. Boring at times but if you have any interest in ANTH, id recommend him. 2nd best ANTH professor next to Scaglion.

The class was not enjoyable at all. Easy class but the material is dry. His love for the subject though makes him a great teacher, however the TAs are very unhelpful. They do not care about you or your grade and seem to only want to give you the material so you can get out of their face. Easy freshman class, but unenjoyable due to the TAs

This was a fantastic course. Kind, helpful, genuinely concerned with students' grades. Lectures were interesting and informative, and Hanks has a great sense of humor. The only reason you would get a poor grade is if you weren't doing your part of the coursework--expectations are reasonable.

Extremely nice guy, gives practice quiz which probably 50% of the test is straight from, so the tests aren't bad. There is a research paper (he gives 2 options) at the end that is tough, but he is worth taking. Makes class enjoyable. (I know he's going to read this because he checks this website!)
