Comment:

Professor Ploye is wonderful! This was my third time taking her class and each time she keeps it more and more interesting. The material may get hard, and she may challenge you to think outside the box during lecture discussions, but she just wants you to work for that A and also know more about french literature.

The class itself isn't too bad. We read an interesting novel and usually discussed it during lecture time. Personality-wise, Ploye is alright. She definitely knows what she's doing. Doesn't upload grades anywhere so just talk to her if you want to know how you're doing in the class.

Prof. Ploye is incredible. Her class isn't easy but she is extremely fair and you will learn so much. Truly an amazing prof, so glad to have had her and I am enrolling in another course of hers next quarter!

Madame Ploye was a really good professor for french 2B. She was always super helpful when it came to problems students faced about grammar, sentence structure, and the current readings we discussed in class. The course material was rather difficult at times, but Madame really simplified it down for all the students to understand. Amazing professor

I LOVE MADAME PLOYE. She is SO cool, inspiring, interesting, helpful, and thoughtful. If I missed class because of something as simple as a headache, all I had to do was email her and she would completely understand and let me makeup any work I missed. Super sweet person.

Her courses are difficult, she belittles those who can't keep up, and she does not allow any criticism of french culture. If you happen to disagree with her, watch out. In fact, just keep it in and save yourself the aggravation. Workload is cumbersome, more geared toward graduate-level study.

Comment:

Catherine teaches upper division French classes. I've had her for several and she is amazing! She is accessible, a fair grader, and she never makes her students feel stupid. If you get the chance to, definitely take her! PS. all lower div. classes that she doesn't teach have her name show up because she's the head of the department.

Ploye was nonexistent. As for the other TAs, they all were ok - as long as you show effort and don't fail the final, you can get by with a C. Final, midterm, 3 1-2 page papers, and a short presentation with a partner.

Catherine Ploye, compared to the TAs, was pretty hard. She expected a lot more from the tests and compositions than any of the TAs. In class she was very good with keeping conversation going and when you didn't know the answer she didn't make you feel stupid. Although she is difficult, she is very helpful in office hours and through e-mail.

I never saw her in class.The TAs are awesome.Doug Pinto and Annick Gentet are really great.They really care and are more than willing to spend extra time to make sure that you understand the material.Class is really easy if you can speak French.It consists of grammar and writing.Exposees are fun.
