One of the best professors I've ever had. Class is an easy A, as you only write 2 papers and the rest is watching films. He doesn't require you to show up for class, but gets irritated by those who don't.

If you need an easy A -- this is the class for you!! He is kinda weird, but he's a sweetheart. We didn't get our 1st grade till more than 1/2 way thru the semester. Had 2 write 4 or 5 stories within his guidelines and bam you've got an A in the course. I strongly suggest this professor if you need a GPA boost!!

He's a sweetheart. He gave us about 6 interviews to do, but they were not hard at all. If we liked our grade we didn't have to do the last paper. He does use some choice language, but really does care about his students. We started class in Aug, but didn't do any work until Nov. Take Merrill if you want an easy A and he will help U if u need it.

Awful teacher. He gave out assignments that were nearly impossible to complete, and was not understanding at all if you missed anything. He made me change my major.

I don't know how the deuce I pulled a B in this class. Easy grader, apparently. Made me change my major tho. Journalism is borringg. & he is *hard* but obviously not anal about it. I didn't do 2 of the assignments & made A's, B's & a C on the rest & yet still managed a B. Niiice.

This teacher is quite interesting. He isn't particularly nice, but he's not rude to the point of offensive; unless you ask stupid questions; for example: One day, a student asked "Can we make stuff up?" referring to writing a news story out of information given. He yelled for a good ten minutes! It was funny though!

Dr. Merrill keeps this class straight and to the point.. no filler material. For the first half of the semester he lectures..no story writing. The second half you come in type your story and turn it in.. Admitedly, this class was easy but I did learn some valuable writing tips.Be prepared for some comments ( sometimes offending) about your stories.

The easiest class I have ever taken at UAB. I never went to class and got a B. I enjoyed class just to see who he was going to offend that day. He always keeps class entertaining and is ALWAYS willing to help. He has tons of opinons and is always willing to share them with you. Great teacher.

Dr. Merrill is great as long as you aren't really sensitive because he tells it like it is. I love his class and will search the schedule for him next semester.
