Comment:
This is the professor I'd expect in most college level math classes. David will teach you how to learn the material, he won't just teach you the material. This is not someone to take if you're trying to just pass the class. He's extremely tough, but I respect his way of teaching To pass his class, you'll need willpower. It's worth it in the end.

He certainly knows the math, and he does teach it pretty well. His grading is his biggest downside, because he's such a tough grader. His grading on exams is harsh, but his grading on homework is harsher. I'm expecting everyone in my class to get lower than a C on homework.

This was one of the best courses I have ever taken. He really made a big impact on my life and on my career. Confidence and Joy. That is what I got out of his class. I took his class in 1981. It's 2015 now. I hope that he gets this feedback.

Excellent professor. If you start the assignments (at least try) then you will feel on top of the material. He is crystal clear in his demands for homework and midterms, be sure to attend every lecture. He is very helpful and is obviously very dedicated to serving his students. Very kind!

Professor Ellis is a bit harsh in his teaching methods, however he is well-intentioned and his goal is to get you to learn the material. His offline and online hw due dates are inconsistent, and often times are unannounced, so I would frequently check MyMathLab or the iLearn page to make sure.

Dr. Ellis is a bright mathematician, but he has a hard time explaining concepts to the class. He is intemidating, but if u go to his office hours and make an effort to understand the material, you'll get through the class.

One time he asked the class if everyone got a certain answer to a problem. About 4 people raised their hands, then he said "Ok, well if you didn't get that solution, then... well... just get it." Probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had.

Comment:
Dr. Ellis is not a great teacher. his teaching methods are very scatterbrained, there's not a lot of clarity, and he expects us to learn a lot of the material by ourselves. Thing is, if we've never taken the course before, how are we supposed to know how to do the problems without help...? Nice guy, but not the best teacher.

at first he seems kinda harsh, but he is a great professor and is very clear. he lets you know what is going to be on the test. so your not just studying randomly. I would take him again.

I don't know why his rating is so low he is great. I really liked his teaching style. The way he explained math made it intuitive.

Ellis is a great teacher! Calculus doesn't get any clearer than this. Helps a lot in office hours, is enthusiastic and organized, and NOT biased at all. You got the problem right or you didn't. He was actually interesting!

The reviewer who claimed Ellis is biased is obviously biased himself. The claims are ridiculous. Ellis is an outstanding explainer of mathematical concepts, and *very* conscientious about helping students understand the topic. Easily one of the best math professors I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Definately not a nice guy. Grades in an extremely biased fashion, and is no stranger to making fun of students in class. Although I did all homework and did excellently on the final he still did not give me a passing grade, and clearly excersised bias in every circumstance when grading me despite protest. I reccommend avoiding his classes.

He is a smart mathematician, but a terrible professor. He is very confusing. If you need differential equations, take Math 245 with Dukhovny.
