This class itself is pretty difficult but reading the textbook really helps! most of his exam questions come straight from his notes. BUT he requires certain key words on his exam so they are graded tough. practice exam is similar to the exam. He is really nice and wants you to pass.

Extremely nice guy who cares a lot about his students success. There is a lot of material to learn in this class and he expects you to know it, so if you put in the effort you will do fine on exams. Practice exam very similar to actual thing. Do the readings and understand the answers to the review questions posted weekly and you will do just fine.

Dr. Hanson is a super nice guy, and you can tell that he really likes what he is teaching. His practice exams were fairly close to the actual exam . Would definetly take again. Incredibly easy!!!

David Hanson was one of the most conflicting professors ever. He is super nice, charismatic and interesting during lecture, HOWEVER, do not underestimate his grading. The first test is VERY difficult. Our class average was a 55%. He is very specific on grading. You really need to know everything in detail for the plant portion of the class.

I am writing this review to aware future students who have no option but to take this class. READ THE ASSIGNED PAGES BEFORE CLASS, IT HELPS A LOT. The book is easy to read. The first test score hovers around a 60. There are no drops. He assigns review questions. DO THESE. Be as specific as possible. He grades based on buzz words (IMPORTANT).

This has a tough class, but it is very worth it. David is so nice and will always be willing to to help you in his office hours. The tests are tough, but if you do the review questions and know the diagramsgraphs, you will do just fine. Don't be afraid to approach him, he's the best!

Let the record show I am not, nor have I ever been interested in plants. That being said, I was prepared to work hard to pass this class. Dr. Hanson is entertaining and always willing to help, but he expects you to know specific details for too many chapters on each test. Keep up with the reading.

Be ready to learn on your own. His lectures are disorganized, hard to follow, and he spends 50% of the time fumbling with technology he can't work. Whether it's glossed over in the lecture or not, know all the particulars of every picture, table, or diagram. A lot of work, little feedback. Made me dislike an otherwise interesting subject.

Hanson was not organized at all. His lectures were scattered brained and would lose most of us. His exams nickeled and dimed you on parts of his lecture he skimmed over. I hated the biology core and glad I'm to the upper level classes.

His tests are very difficult. Class averages are usually a D. He said he probably wouldn't curve grades, but he ended up adding about 15 points to the first 2 tests. Make sure you practically memorize your notes, and be able to draw/label ALL figures and diagrams!!

It was probably the hardest biology class I ever took at UNM. He knew his subject(plants) very well. The tests were very difficult and the class averages were usually D's.

Not the easiest professor, but very fair. Provides review questions and the powerpoint slides for lectures. Exams are tough, but if you've done the review questions, you should be prepared for them. Great to talk to in office hours.

David is very intelligent and knowledgeable about Botany. However, his tests were hard and the quizzes never followed the study guide that he gave to us. He doesn't explain things very well, mumbles and seems uncomfortable in front of the class. Makes people feel stupid if they don't get the material.

David seems to have a hard time speaking in front of large groups, nervous and off center during lecture. However, knows his biology. Go to office hours, he great with students one and one and in small groups. Will take the time to make sure you've got it. Tests are reasonable.

Dr. Hanson knows his Biology, and he does a great job of explaining, say, in office hours, but he's kind of disorganized when he's giving lectures. He's good with questions, though. He's one of the few who will take questions in class.
