Tough grader on essays and you need to take very detailed notes during lectures. The textbooks help a lot for essays. He makes the material interesting and cares about the class and students.

Comment:
His lectures go on and on and he is very monotonous. He doesn't use Canvas so you have to email him for your grade. He grades his papers very unfair and is not willing to discuss your grade. Makes weird references in class and is very politically biased. Grade depends on papers so if he doesn't like your paper you're screwed. Dont take this class.

Attending class is not mandatory but he does take points off for every day you miss. There are no tests/quizzes in his class but you do have to write 3 papers and there are some short responses that are due at the beginning of class. He is an overall nice professor and has a different sense of humor, but he is always willing to help when needed.

Dr. David Wayne Layman Ph.D. was an amazing teacher. His class is lecture based with notes off of a powerpoint. I took his 50 min class and I learned something/thought differently every class. He is also one of the funniest professors I have ever had. He integrates his own experiences into his topics and makes them easy to understand. 10/10

Dr. Layman is a great professor! His class is lecture style everyday, but you learn a lot in a short period of time. A lot of information, but you'll be fine once you figure out the structure of quizzes. 3 papers throughout the semester that are graded fairly. Would take again.

Comment:
Dr. Layman's class grading line out consists of prep classes due at the beginning of every class, several analysis (750 words) and a final paper (extended analysis). Impossible to get a 100 percent on an analysis. He grades them biased to his opinions including grammar like word choice and sentences structures, when they aren't incorrect.

Dr. David Wayne Layman is really nice! This class is all lecture. Participation is not a huge deal. He gives out no homework, except the occasional paper. There was two this semester. Gives out study guides for quizzes, use them and you're fine. Unbiased, professional. Slightly hard grader.

He is a kinda funny bold man. 4 tests, drop lowest / a 5 page essay on God vs Allah / three single page assignments /group project for final where you visit a religious ritual. It can be hard to get an A, but you can do it. I enjoy the class, but don't expect it to be easy. You have to be there and pay attention.

Excellent professor. Definitely very knowledgeable in the field of religious studies. 3 essays and 5 quizzes for the semester and he drops the lowest one of each. Enjoyed going to class. He is extremely enthusiastic and genuinely enjoys teaching. Presents the info in an easy to understand format. Does a great job answering student questions too

Such a great class with a great professor. Take him. My friend took Shusko and regretted it. He is very clear in his lectures, and he makes them enjoyable. There are 3 essays 5 quizzes and 1 ritual report. He drops the lowest quiz and essay. In this class, you will use both textbooks. He was a great professor. I recommend him and the class.

This is such a good class to take, especially with him. My friend took Shusko and regretted it so much. He covers all the religions without being biased. You use "The World's Wisdom" almost every class. The other book is helpful for some tests. Great professor. Loved the class. I would highly recommend taking this and with him.

His lectures are interesting. You do not have to do the assigned reading. 5 quizzes and he drops the lowest quiz grade. 3 papers and drops the lowest grade. Quizzes can be unclear and the papers are graded somewhat harshly. But you will learn a lot during the semester. Very nice man too

Professor Layman is the best professor ever. He teaches with so much enthusiasm and personality. He is a sweet little man. The quizzes are easy, if you pay attention to his power points and actually study.Attendance is not mandatory. Also, he drops your lowest test score and lowest grade on a paper. I highly recommend him.

No tests or quizzes, mostly dry lecture and discussion. He seems nice enough, but sometimes he was really combative with the one non-conservative in the class. Like, super abrasive at times, and she was clearly uncomfortable, but too nice to say anything. Other than that, he is a fair professor. If you need the class, he's not bad.

for a philosophy class he included alot of politics. provides few notes which can be bad when it comes to writing the papers. shuffles thru class roster if you dont wanna volunteer is class discussions ... 7 quizzes (pretty easy), 4 papers (including final)
