Comment:
His lectures and test questions seemed to focus on irrelevant details sometimes, when there were far more interesting things going on in the books we read. He tended to limit discussion and plow ahead with his own thoughts. A little on the arrogant side, but could also be funny and engaging occasionally. Kind of an average professor.

Comment:
As an abstract thinker I found his ideas and insights fascinating, because he is able to discuss literature in a very clear, concrete way without detracting from the beauty and power of the writing. Whereas most teachers emphasize meaning he shows how meaning is constructed and allows his students to value literature on new levels.

If I hear how easy Princeton was despite his having never having gone to class I will puke. Person below me: he'll like that part about not taking his class if you don't like reading. He imagines himself as the only real reader in the country. If you ever wanted to turn a piece of beauty into a math equation: take Prof. Treuer. It's painful.

DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT LIKE TO READ. It is a very good class just demanding. I used to like reading before this class, now I find myself forcing myself to read. When I do read for this class I don't understand what exactly is going on in the books half of the time. That and the analytical process and explaining is difficult.

Trendy. Chip on his shoulder a boulder big. Very good analytical skills. Would rather be writing than teaching, and it shows. At least he's somewhat better at the former, but not as much as his ego would have him believe. A bit swarmy too, but hey. Attack the argument, not the character: The argument is full of holes.

Very entertaining lecturer, his exams are pretty easy if you read all the books and pay attention to (and attend) lectures. He'll throw you off by asking esoteric and trivial questions on exams though! I am not an "English" person at all, but I really enjoyed this course and would recommend it (Contemporary American Lit) to others.

Professor Treuer is the most entertaining (and attractive) professor I have had so far. I definitely recommend his Contemporary American Lit class to anyone! In his class, you have to read all of the books in order to do well on the midterm and final; also, he gives some specific test answers out at lectures, so don't miss a class! :)

My favorite class so far. Absolutely love the lecture and the books we read. I thought the class was easy as long as you keep up with the heavy reading load and attend the discussion. Engaging lecturer, wish he wasn't taking time off to promote his new books. His young age was also a plus in terms of relating to students.

Far and away the best professor I've had in my graduate school experience. Dr. treuer cares not only about your maserty of the subject material, but he encourages ciritcal thinking about non-traditional topics. Recommend taking his class, no matter what the subject.

Treuer was so great, I really enjoyed this class. The material is somewhat challenging, but he really makes the course engaging, and it's nice to have a younger English prof. Great course, great guy. - sadly he isn't teaching for a couple years while promoting his new novel.

he has the best personality. you will love the class, not in spite of, but because of his random stories about his friends or his brother's high school dance outfits, not to mention he is highly intelligent. take any class by this professor. i've taken two and both have been well worth it.

Awesome class, definitely worth taking a semester from this guy. I actually am excited to go to his lectures, and when I leave I feel like I've learned something meaningful. He relates books to life in a way that makes sense to everybody. I've never had a better professor.
