DENNIS KNOWS A LOT ABOUT A LOT OF STUFF. HE IS A GEOLOGIST AND PALYNOLOGIST AND REALLY ENJOYS TO TEACH AND TALK ABOUT IT. HIS CLASS AFTER THE ICE IS REALLY HARD AND SHOULD BE WORTH MORE THAN 4 CREDITS. TONS OF READING, SOME OF IT REALLY DENSE, DO NOT TAKE ON TOP OF A FULL LOAD FOR EXTRA CREDITS. STILL VERY INTERESTING IF YOU HAVE THE TIME.

Comment:

Hibbert is a total nerdy snob. He is a polymath and really knows his stuff. He can be really fun to talk to or rather annoying. His classes are almost all seminar in small groups. Its all about reading the texts and seminar with some post-discussion using his expertise. Recommended if you like reading. He is a geologist, not an anthropologist, BTW.

I've taken two classes with Dennis and would take anything he teaches, he's fantastic. Knows almost everything and will get anwers if needed. Dry humor, loves to talk about anything and clearly interested in his topics. Evergreen needs him on-staff full-time!!

Comment:

If you come to class well prepared, and are interested in the material, his class can be incredible. Most of it is really a sort of Q&A where everyone reads the material (good books, by the way) and he answers questions and elaborates on topics that the students want to know more about.

The scope of Hibbert's knowledge is amazing. Good lecturer, but prefers more conversational format. Small work load other than reading the books in the syallabus. Picks very informative, well-written books.
