Be ready for about 60 pages of reading per class, plus a "pop" quiz almost every day. Gets off on tangents easily, which can be funny or annoying. Going to class was helpful because the readings were very difficult to understand. Handwritten notes only in his class. Not a fun or easy class, but Gantt's the best of the few teachers for this prereq.

This class has really changed my view of the world and I was able to gain an appreciation for the philosophers that helped to shape psychology. This class was not easy. There was a ton of reading, pop quizzes, and hard Exams. Dr Gantt may seem a little harsh before you get to know him, but he really cares and wants you to succeed in his class.

This class will change your life, for real. However, please understand this is a hard class. Like really hard, I spent easily 12 hours a week outside class trying to understand the material. It was worth it in the end, and I highly recommend, but before taking Gantt's class make sure you have the time, because you will work your ass off.

Personality: Extremely thought provoking class and one of my favorites at BYU. The papers and summaries were tough, yet they helped me become a much better writer. Dr. Gantt really cares about the topics presented and is very willing to answer questions and meet after class to hash out ideas. Readings were very interesting too. TAKE THIS CLASS

Honestly hated this class. Lectures were basically pointless, but you had to show up because pop quizzes. Everything was so unclear of what you were supposed to do, and theres easily 100+ pages of reading due every class that you have a quiz on. He seems funny in the beginning, but in person he isnt and in general is super distracted. Not a fan

Not sure why anyone would rate Dr. Gantt or this class low. He is an amazing teacher who has super high standards and demands alot of students but cares so much about them and gives so much to the class. This class changed my life, the way I think about psychology, and the relationship I have with God and others. Totally worth the hard work!

There is an unclear grading system for Psych 311 that makes it impossible to track your progress. Prof. Gantt is intelligent and invested in his students, but he has controversial and insensitive opinions, which are quite disturbing. Additionally, this class is based heavily in philosophy, which is not clear from the title of the course.

Best class I've ever taken. Dr. Gantt takes on difficult subjects head on without being a jerk or condescending. He really offers a new paradigm in which to see the world, the Gospel and psychology. The spirit was very strong in class and I still can't stop thinking about what I've learned. TAKE THIS CLASS

This class is very interesting and can change your perspective of psychology in a semester. It's not an easy class, you can't breeze by with doing the minimum amount of work- you have to actually put in effort and DO the readings for once. It's time consuming, but Dr. Gantt holds you accountable for your own learning and it pays of in the end!

I've learned more from him than any other professor. His way of thinking about the world is infectious. He's very engaging, passionate, and at times polarizing; he doesn't mess around with what he teaches. His motto is "Ideas have consequences" and he will chase down ideas to within an inch of their lives. Expect lots of reading and philosophizing.

Tough class, but honestly so worth it. If you work hard, you can get the grade you want. There's a lot of reading, but the material is fascinating so it's enjoyable. Gantt truly has a way of making you think. I looked forward to lectures because they were mind-blowing. Given I'm a psych major, but this was one of the best classes I've taken at BYU.

It's a hard class, but he's a pretty incredible professor. He knows what he's talking about and the material is intellectually enhancing for sure. This class totally changed my perspective on psychology, gave me hope for being LDS while also having a successful psychology career and helped me narrow down my focus as a psychology major.

He knows his stuff for sure. Be prepared to read 100+ pages a week. Lectures are long and if you don't find philosophy interesting (yes, philosophy not psychology) it may be hard to stay awake. Tests are very extensive 2-4 hours and require several pages of writing. Hard class - I did well only because of the TA review sessions

This class is not for the faint of heart, but it's also the most rewarding class I've taken at BYU. Dr. Gantt's lectures give you a different perspective on psychology and life in general. The papers are very difficult, but you'll become a better writer if you take them seriously. One of the only classes that will leave a mark after graduation.

Professor Gantt is really great, and I loved his lectures, but wow this class was hard. If you're not absolutely sure you want to study psychology, do NOT take this class, because it will wreck your gpa. This class is all about philosophy, so you better really like that

Professor Gantt is amazing. He is intelligent, and his lectures are engaging and hilarious. The downside of this class is the fact that there is 60-70 pgs of reading before class, and a "pop quiz" almost every single class. Exams have 16 essay questions and take about 3 hours. BEWARE! Take this if you wanna drown and lower your GPA :-)

Professor Gantt's class changed my perspective on psychology and religion. It was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Yes there is a lot of reading, but by the end of the semester I felt like I really understood everything. I would recommend going to the TA reviews, they explain things in a different way and prepare you for the test.
