He gives better grades if you go to class and if you quote in the papers. However, class is a waste of time because he talks about whatever he wants with no point or foundation so its confusing and frustrating.

Second class I had with him because hes the only teacher for Environmental Ethics and he still has no clear direction and talks about whatever he wants in class with no foundation. Does not prepare you for final or papers and makes you feel awful if you miss any classes

You have to read a lot for his class and he gives very few assignments. However, there are no tests. He can be a really cool guy if you get to know him and participate in class, but he can also be strict . Listen to the lecture before a paper is due because he usually says everything you need to say to get a B or an A on the paper.

He's really funny guy, his lectures are never dull. He doesn't assign homework or have test but you do have to do the class reading to keep up in the class. if you dont read he will give a quiz, he only assigns papers for homework and he's gives fair grades. Don't think this is a bird class you have to put in the effort and like the course material

Overall a funny guy. You do a LOT of reading for the class, then he spends the class time talking about what you're generally reading at the time. I've written a total of 4 papers, including the final exam, which is also a paper. He spends a lot of time on Plato and you pretty much read all of the Republic. Hard grader.

From the perspective of someone in an intro class you may not like or care about philosophy, therefore you will probably not like this guy. But if you are interested in Philosophy and take it on as a major, there is so much that can be learned from this professor. All the PHD's in PHIL at JU are very smart, but can be perceived as awkward LOL!

I had suspected for awhile that this particular professor was a bit misogynistic. I wrote a paper for him and received a "C" (I dropped the class shortly after). Three years later, I made some minor changes to said paper and had my friend turn it in. He got an "A" and an invitation to discuss his "brilliant" paper.

Before I went to his class I was NOT looking forward to it, but after I saw his enthusiasm for the topic it made me want to go to class.Many people think he goes "Off Topic", but if you are ACTUALLY PAYING ATTENTION he is relating his personal life experiences and recent news to the lecture.Most teachers don't do that and they are hard to relate to

One of the worst classes I have ever taken. Paper topics were very difficult and confusing. Don't buy the books, seriously, you can find it all online. I was really shocked when I found out I got an A-, he must have been having a good day when he did grades.

Enjoyed what I learned, just not so sure about this professor. Comes to class late and keeps you after time to go. There are only a few papers and a final for a grade. Willing to help on writing skills so you can make the grade. Overall, the comment here on this site are spot on. A boring yet mind probing course if you take the time to think.

He can be very funny at times. He gets off topic alot. He hardly ever takes role so you don't have to come to class a lot but you want to make sure you know when your papers are due. He does express his liberal beliefs but he is also willing to lisen to your beliefs.

Nothing was good about this class! It was terribly boring and i never went...you can get by on your papers by reading and taking some (very little) notes in class. Quote a lot and explain the quotes and you can get by

Couldn't agree more with the other comments. Although I will add "Raving liberal anyone?" Sitting in his class while my spouse was deployed for the military was the worst experience of my entire college time. Miserable man, miserable class.

Ok..here's the deal..His class is boring so I never went..I never read..but when I did manage to attend all he talked about was the last reading or about his new cat. We only wrote 2 papers..One about Plato's "Cave imagery" and the other was our final on Geneology of Morality by Nietzche..make sure you quote LOTS and exlpain each quote. I got a B.
