Subjective grader. Work load is not proportional to the credit hours. And I actually enjoyed her class.

Her class is a lot of work. The outside assignments are actually worth it, but then she gives quizzes and an exam. Prepare for 15+ hours a week.

As a graduate of the MLIS program, I assert that Dr. Dalton's classes (I took three) were the ones in which I learned the most and which challenged me in ways graduate school should. The basics which she focuses on are necessary to successful reference, whatever "modern" tools one might utilize. Take her before she retires!!!

Comment:
Dr. Dalton is a rigorous and exacting professor, but if you are interested in getting anything worthwhile out of your MLIS program you will take her and learn from her. Perhaps the people who do not like her courses are not ready for graduate level work. She is critical but that is part of your professional education. She has a dry sense of humor

Comment:
Dalton is very rigid and exacting about the standards for her excessively lengthy assignments. Ironically, during in-class "demonstrations" of online searches, she seems almost incapable of carrying out the very tasks she demands so rigidly of us. Helpful? Maybe at one time in her career, but certainly not now. Avoid at all costs.

Comment:
If you are taking only this class, you will have time to do everything Dalton asks. If you have other classes and a life besides, you will have problems. Excessive assignments, highly unreasonable demands, arbitrary grader, and wasted class time spent telling us about her days at the Harvard library. She should not be teaching. Terrible class.

I did not get along with Dalton at all. She reminded me very much of the Nazis she researches. I went to her for help on a very complex assig. and she basically refused to help me.. she was also my advisor! I thought she knew her stuff, but at the same time she was pretentous and could not relate to her students

Best teacher I've ever had, bar none. Commands respect while showing respect for her students. The work is hard but worthwhile. Hers are the only classes I've had in this program that truly feel like graduate-level work.

I disagree with the person that said she was totally uninterested in her students. She was very helpful and clear. She is a fair grader, demanding (but you should be in graduate school), and probably one of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. Get ready to work, but it is worth it.

Yes, the class is difficult. Yes, the graded assignments are lengthy. Do not expect to finish them overnight. Approach Dr. Dalton with questions and she will help you. If you put a lot into this class, you will learn so much.

Only wanted to publish. Did not care about her students at all. Most unhelpful professor, I've ever seen.
