Comment:
Okay I learned nothing in this class and the lectures suck. The tests are take home but you don't know what you're doing even if you go to class and don't trust Chegg, it's almost always wrong. BUT... My highest test grade was an 83 but I ended with an A in the class because the final was so easy and it was exactly the "pre-test". Worth it, IMO.

He's entertaining in class, but his lectures aren't always helpful. He does equations on the board but does not explain specific concepts. The lectures are sometimes related to the hw, but I rely on chegg to help me with hw. Tests are group take home, but very difficult. I have the textbook but I did not open it once.

Gives team take home exams. Also if Final exam grade is better than cumulative grade in class he will replace it.

I took this class for the Gen physcis (Non-calculus based), knowing that he was a difficult professor for the calculus based courses. What I did not know was that he still expected a similar level of mathematical skill from us. His lectures, homework and tests were very different from each other so succeeding in his class is very difficult.

Dr. Redmount is by far one of the worst professors at SLU and one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my lifetime. What goes on during lectures, homework, and tests are 3 completely different things. Get yourself a good group with people who already know physics, because you sure won't learn how to do the homework and test problems from him.

The rest of the reviews are pretty accurate. He is very pompous and loves to show how smart he is. He does calc 3 and diff eq and the coreq is calc 2. For those of you who must take him, wait until the first test and when you have a solid group, all pitch in and buy one book, because you only need it for the tests. A on final means A in class.

Do not take Redmount. He tries to make physics as hard as possible to make himself seem smarter. I like physics and am good at it and was appalled by how he taught. He makes you get the book that he wrote, which I did not learn a single thing from. His lectures and tests are similar, but are not similar at all to the homework. Worst teach I've had.

Dr. Redmount has great lectures and awesome dad jokes, but his tests are extremely difficult. However, they're take home except for his final. The tests are going to be difficult because his lectures aren't similar to homework and tests that often.

Literally makes the class harder than the calculus than my Calc 2 class for no reason. He literally just shows off his knowledge during class and is very pompous. Do not take this class because it is not physics 1.

He is not a very helpful professor at all. All of his lectures are straight out of his book: jokes and all. His lectures are confusing and his tests are even harder. Do not take him if you value your GPA. That being said, it is possible to get an A. All of the tests are group tests, so make sure you prepare well fro them.

I took his class over the summer and quickly learned how difficult his class was. CHEGG WILL SAVE YOU!!! The homework isn't necessarily hard, just time consuming, and most of the answersformulas can be found on chegg. I failed the first test and got a chegg tutor for the second and got a 90. It's worth the money for a tutor if you want to pass!!

Ian Redmount is the worst teacher I have ever had. He explains nothing in terms you can understand. I am an A student and his class made me want to cry! Get a group together for the take home tests, they are very difficult. Try to find a tutor that can help with the tests. Don't go to class, there's no point. Don't buy his book!

Very difficult. The book was not necessary at all. Homework was online and had little to do with the notes taken in class; many things had to be looked up online to complete it as well. Tests were take-home and could be worked on with partners; they had questions that required deep thinking and understanding of the material. Would not recommend.

Lectures are filled with lots of one-liner style jokes, some are a little dad-jokey. Gives all take home tests, but with very difficult problems. I would for sure take him for another course. Made Engineering Physics 1 and 2 so much better than it could have been.

Dr. Redmount is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He rambled off topic for ages in lecture, the tests were very difficult and the online homework did not help me understand the material. He was condescending and very intimidating. I would NEVER recommend him. I am pre-med and his class did nothing to help with the MCAT.

Coming from an Engineer who has done average so far at SLU, I can say that Ian Redmount is the toughest professor I've ever taken. However, if you work hard, show up to class, and study you can certainly pass this class. He is very intelligent and knows the material well as if he founded it all. In that respect, his lectures are very inspiring.

I don't get why he gets so much hate... His tests are all multiple choice and based 100% off of the notes. I didn't even read the book, just memorized his notes. Tests are open note as well. Lecture is super interesting as well cause he talks about random awesome shiz. I'm doing bad in Physics 2 with a diff professor, but Physics I was easy.

Redmount is one of those people that talks overly fast and extra loud in order to assert the fact that he thinks he is smarter than everyone else. The tests and lecture have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the lecture. There is essentially no point in going to class. The book we use is also written by him so there is no way to learn on your own.

This is waste of tuition you pay not to mention precious morning hours. Plz consider taking physics elsewhere esp. if you are premed/pre-dent. He despises premed and pre-dents and gets kick out of making life miserable for them.

Comment:
"Dr. Redmount is too intelligent to teach intro physics" is probably one of the most common things that students say. I disagree. Part of being truly intelligent is possessing the ability to communicate your ideas to others. To do this, you must understand your audience and adapt to their needs. Dr. Redmount cannot do this and thus is ineffective.
