Comment:
Spends lecture talking about current events, not curriculum. Nice man, bad teacher. exams and quizzes and assignments are painfully challenging and in depth, not like his material in lecture. Tutor, study sessions, or do yourself a favor and don't take econ through him.

Easy class if you actually attend and practice. Dauve tells you exactly what to expect and even repeats questions from previous tests. He drops your lowest test score and is very reasonable. Great class overall. People complaining probably just weren't willing to work.

Jan Dauve is a great guy but struggles as a professor. He's a big 'don't memorize, learn' guy so the powerpoints are not even close to what you'll see on the test. Nice part about this class is that he drops your lowest test grade (4 total). This class got a lot of degree reqs out of the way but I never want to take another econ class after this.

Take 1041-MICRO before 1042-MACRO. I really struggled in micro and got a C+, but then I got an A in macro. Go to class to get the clicker points-and right down the q's-they're often on the tests! Also, STUDY THE PREVIOUS TESTS & QUIZZES. So many questions are nearly identical to old tests. Also everything on his tests is theory-no calculations!

While a very nice guy, he was a terrible professor. I get the sense that he is used to teaching kids who have a prior, base knowledge of economics. For me, with no knowledge of it, I was very lost the entire time. I would recommend taking this course somewhere else if you absolutely need the credit.

He's a painfully nice guy, but a painfully useless professor. He just rambles for an hour about current events and barely touches upon the material he will evaluate you on very in-depth on the quizzes and tests. If you're putting a math problem on a test/quiz, you work an EXAMPLE of said problem in class. Sounds elementary? Not to J-Dauve, clearly.

This class will be what you make it. Everything is cumulative and builds on previous information so make sure you understand the basics. Dauve is great and tries to explain things in different ways so people will understand. Go to discussions! DO THE PREVIOUS EXAMS, they're a great way to study for upcoming tests.

He is very passionate about what he teaches. Unless you really know what you're doing, however, the test and quizzes are hard.

Nice guy, cares a lot about what he's teaching. But what he teaches barely scrapes the surface of what will be on the test. He'll talk about different scenarios in class but expect you to graph and use math to simulate the case on a test. He also doesn't use a book, the text is a website that is more or less useless for studying.

Don't buy the book, you won't use it. Go to the review sessions, they pretty much do the quizzes for you. Dauve really loves what he is teaching and you can tell that by his lectures. Go to class because the tegrity lectures are from a few years ago.

Do not take this class without taking micro, he will say you can but he doesn't ever teach and expects you to know the stuff so it will hurt your grade like crazy.

Dauve was one of the best professors I have EVER had. He related things to the real world. If you pay good attention in class, you don't have to study at all. I never did and got an A. His class is about UNDERSTANDING, rather than grades. If you go into office hours he will explain things until he's SURE you understand them.
