His lectures are hard to follow in my opinion, but I also have the attention span of a goldfish. Exams can feel impossible, but he curves quite a bit. Homeworks are long and way harder than the exams. You can find solutions to the homeworks online if you look. Doesn't hesitate to insult the whole class, not for the faint of heart. Sexy AF

Comment:

Mayer is one of the best professors in the EE department. Generates all the class material himself. Gives challenging but fair exams and homework. Knows power topics inside and out. Will spend the entire class period answering homework questions if you keep asking them. Has a humorous side, easy to talk to.

Awesome professor, really knows his stuff. He's more than willing to help students outside of class as long as they come to class regularly and pay attention. As as others have mentioned, don't mix dryness for rudeness. His sense of humor is great if you know how to appreciate it.

EE 387 has to be one of the most interesting classes I've taken. Mayer created most of the class material, if not all of it, himself, so you can imagine he has a lot to say. His lectures are very fluid and you can learn a lot from this guy! He is also extremely helpful if you go to his office hours.

He calls himself a power guy, yet he is not powerful whatsoever in the physical realm. At least not to my knowledge. Mayer's mind is quite potent and well-rounded. He aims to destroy one rain forest per class with all his handouts. He's Irish but he's shown up sober to all of his classes so go figure.

Huge EGO. 210 is a weed course, and he does a good job as the gardener. Gotta work hard, and ignore his "distaste" for students. He does have much knowledge on the subject, but makes you look dumb for inquiring about the most complex subjects.

you guys are crazy. He makes it way to hard to get through his courses. EE is hard enough this guy is just a tool who makes it harder. He does have a large ego, and made me feel stupid when asking questions, but he is an excellent lecturer and his notes are some of the best i have seen, as long as you go to class to fill in the blanks. However, he likes to through curveballs on tests. You will learn a lot with him but will have to put in the time for a good grade.

His giant EGO more than makes up for his small stature. The class was hard but I learned a good bit, for the most part. One thing that is key is study your @ss off. Taking notes was difficult because he teaches way too fast. Overall, I thought he was a jackass but not too bad of a teacher if you can take all his berating.

Horrible NOTES!!! He puts too much on the slides for you to fill in, so you end up not being able to pay attention to him, which is just fine because all he's doing is babbling. He tries his best to weed you out and has a sick smile on exam days. Overall he does teach you a lot, but he does so in a horrible way.

Mayer is an overall great guy. He's very helpful and his notes are AMAZING. He puts a lot of time into them for sure. His exams were insanely hard, but possible if you studied for like 3 days straight before them. Homeworks are really long, they took like 8hrs on average to complete. If you go to his office hours and talk to him, he'll help you out

Discouraging, dull and very uninteresting... The Best professor I had. Surprised!!. Well his are the best notes I have ever seen, there is not a more logical explanation that anyone can provide and he is extremely helpful. Use his discouragement to your advantage by studying better. Makes it bearable to get through one of the toughest class in UP..
