John was hands down one of my favorite professors. Art is a very diverse field, and I feel like it can be tough for professors to find ways to connect with all of their students. John was able to accomplish this with his great sense of humor and easy-going ways. Absolutely loved this class and would take it again. :)

Comment:

Taking drawing class with John was a great learning experience. He is very helpful and gives constructive criticism. I did not believe I could draw until I took a class with John. However make sure you put effort in, he will not just give you an A on your pieces.

John is one of the best art teachers I've ever had, and I've been in an art class since fourth grade. He cares about every student and their work, gives you praise for your work and what you can do to improve it. Overall, this class made me a better artist. Plus, John is hilarious. This class is very enjoyable and I enjoyed coming to class.

Very clear assignments, willing to help if you don't understand something clearly. A lot of quizzes and tests but there are 3 tries for each of them. There were a few easy drawing assignments, photography assignments and very short essays but overall a very easy class.

Comment:

One of my favorite professors at ICC. He was very informative, fun, and interesting. I really liked his way of teaching drawing, very one on one and let us learn as we go. Loved most of the drawing projects. We only were told to take home work a few times, but of course was encouraged to work on drawings outside of class.

Took this class as part of my electives. Very fair and helpful, quick to respond to emails/questions, even during holiday breaks. Make sure to read the entire assignment description - points deducted even for the smallest thing being left out. Participatation in the DB assignments in crucial.

Awesome teacher, really laid back and friendly. MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR MATERIALS. Not having your materials and not paying attention are the only two things that really seemed to tick him off. He's very helpful, and quick to give support. I definitely recommend taking his class.

John is awesome! Hilarious, helpful, and pretty nice too. Has questionable taste in art, but so what? He'll give you one-on-one suggestions and advice but doesn't force a certain look. Definitely ASK if you need help. He is understanding and responsive if you're open with your issues. Really fun guy, I'd take another class with him in a heartbeat!

I took several classes with John a few years back, and to this day I miss his clssses... I've had many art teachers and he is by far the best. He is hands on, funny (well, kind of :) ), nice, and laid back. Just don't blow off class!!! Show up and get into it, you'll learn so much!!! (He also has a nice smile, if I do say so myself).

I enjoyed this class throughout the course of this minimester I do feel as if I have truly learned about and now have a better appreciation for the arts. I cannot complain about the nature of the assignments, the time crunch, and or the instructing techniques. This is my fourth minmester in my two years at ICC and by far the most enjoyable.

I took figure drawing 1 & 2, and painting with John. He uses a hands on approach to illustrate techniques which helped quite a bit with the learning process. His class critiques get students to think and I found them enjoyable. I wish I could have every art class with John.

Nice enough guy, but disorganized and not really sure exactly which assignments will be required in the class. That caused me to not be able to plan ahead very well. He did not grade until the end of the semester, so I did not know how he would grade. I ended up with an A, but I was sweating it.

Awesome Teacher! He is very helpful and very nice. Quizzes are super easy- right off of the notes. Tests are very easy as well. Took this class as a minimester and got an A. Never really used my book except for when I needed to see a painting/art piece, which you could do on google! Take him.

If U want to learn anything more useful/marketable, look elsewhere, & if you can't feign interest in egotistical hacks with childlike tempers- he has delusions of popularity/respect & is not above dragging classmates into petty squabbles- RUN
