CSE555 is structured very nicely covering a lot of areas. Applications of the algorithms learnt are also discussed in class. The optional project provides a chance of applying/implementing any algorithm of interest. The professor is inspirational! His dedication towards teaching inspires students to do well in the course. A great person!

Offers a rare blend of being one of the worlds premier researchers in Computational Geometry while also displaying a veritable passion for teaching. He was on the ground floor when the field was first taking off in the early 1980s at Stanford and has remained at the cutting edge ever since. You will learn a lot and have fun in his class.

One of the most beautiful professors to ever grace SBU. Cares about his students' success, emails back, and wants to teach! His class is hard for people who don't have a working knowledge of CS with all the algos, but he preps you well. 2nd chance midterm is a blessing. His class is not easy, but it's worth it and I would take him again any day.

Mitchell is one of the few professors here who really can communicate that he knows what he's talking about and wants you to understand it as well. He admits when the slides have an error and has no problem answering every question students ask during lecture. During exams he makes sure nothing is ambiguous. Nice guy.

Before took his class, I really have virtually no interesting in theoretical computer science. I have taken algorithm classes before. I know some applications of algorithms I learned in classes. What I didn't know is how fascinating they are. This class really changed me and I started to image to my career as a researcher in cs

Exceptional breadth of knowledge. Can recommend specific papers and books. Very well connected. A nourishing teacher who expects students to do heavy lifting but helps them get strong enough to do it. a little flighty sometimes. Runs one or two Seminars a week - GO TO THEM.

Amazing Professor, very passionate about math. Quizzes are not your usual quizzes but if you study you should get majority of the questions right. HWs are easy if you go to class. Also, this is the first time the class is being taught, he did an amazing job doing it.

Fantastic professor. He cares so much about his students, is approachable and helpful, especially in office hours. I loved him but the course material was very difficult and required a lot more outside study time than any course I've ever taken. Exams are very difficult, though he tries to prepare you. Very touch glass, but professor is great.

Such a fantastic professor. Extremely thorough, extremely intelligent, and truly cares about his students as well as the material he is teaching. Not sure if he gives difficult tests or if AMS311 is just a very hard class.

Best AMS professor I've had so far at Stony Brook! He is extremely dedicated and explains all of the material VERY thoroughly, so GO TO CLASS! He gives similar example tests with solutions so you have the opportunity to prepare for each midterm and know what to expect. Actually cares about his students' success and is helpful during office hours.

Professor Mitchell is my absolute favorite professor at Stony Brook. His teaching style makes it IMPOSSIBLE not to understand and he's the nicest professor to talk to if you go to his office hours. If you do the homework and practice exams, the tests are easy. He does not want to trick you, he wants you to really understand.

Very good professor who cares a great deal about his students, but you must work hard and have the proper background. Make sure you have experience writing proofs and are up on your geometry and programming.

8 tough hws, one dropped. Long tests. Material is different than any ive ever learned. Interesting. Great in OH. Friendly, smart, likes helping u understand. Nasa teleconferences interrupt his scheduled OH often lol. Large curve, but leaves u in the dark about grades. I had a 69 and got a b. go to his OH early for O notation if u dont get it!!

his exams are crazy. u get a second chance, OK... got an A in 310 but won't be getting an A from this class FOR SURE. his homeworks are REALLY annoying. i can never get a full grade on the homeworks and i spend FOREVER on them. its annoying. spend the most time on his homeworks yet never got a full score on any of them.

In class I can understand everything- I do well on homeworks- i failed ALL of his exams. This class is the reason I took a minor in AMS instead of double major. I found the material extremely difficult and this was the ONLY class I had left in order to complete the major- i took it 3 times. I passed exam P but could not pass AMS 311.
