I was worried reading the reviews for Karens class. However, she turned out to be one of the best profs ive had. She has dry and dark humour which made the class a lot of fun and her grading criteria is so clear it is hard to get a bad mark. She literally states exactly what she needs from you to get an A. Its reading heavy but its a 3000Eng class

Karen is not very clear about her expectations. I'm throughly convinced that she did not read any of my papers after the first one.I wouldn't recommend this prof unless you like being unnecessarily stressed out.

Thoroughly unimpressed with this professor. Makes students feel unwelcome to offer insights and opinions during lectures. Lectures are not structured, and minimal instruction is given for assignments. Would not recommend Karen.

Karen is a good prof. I liked not having to buy a textbook for her section. However, she chooses the most boring papers to read, ones that she admits to disliking. She is very sweet, I got an A on my first paper but I am not convinced she read any of my papers after that. She doesn't provide much feedback to help you improve.

I had Karen for my first year at uni and she made it the most hardest class I have ever taken. Her lectures are dry and so disorganized. She expects you to learn through class discussions but not everyone learns the same. All in all, take this review into consideration and see if she works for you or not. You will know in the first day. Good luck!

Karen was a good prof. Her lectures were very organized and it was clear what she wanted from you in order to pass the class. she had a lot of group discussions and in class writing which counted for marks so attendance matters. her essays really help you learn how to write better and she gives great feedback

Karen is an amazing prof. She is very funny, and also a very fair marker. Her lectures are well-organized, and her expectations for the class are made very clear. Attendance is mandatory, and so is class participation. She has really helped me develop as a writer by giving useful feedback. Would recommend Karen's 4000 level course as well!

Karen is an amazing professor. She prioritizes her student's well being, and is a very fair marker. Attendance is not mandatory, but it does help as she recognizes students who attend class regularly. There are many small assignments, but they are very easy and contribute to your final paper. Karen is very helpful, and really funny! 10/10!

Karen is a great prof. The material can be a little dry, but she does try and make it interesting! I really enjoyed the research logs which helps the research paper at the end of term. Karen is helpful outside of class, and gives good feedback. I would recommend and take her class again!

I found this class difficult and heavy in the beginning. It requires a lot of reading before the class and writing & discussion at class. Karen isn't an easy grader, but she helped me take this course seriously. She's very helpful and accessible outside the class and gives clear feedback about my writing. She is one of my favorite professors.

AVOID THIS PROF! She never gives clear instructions and you can not tell what she wants ever! She gave me an F for plagerism, when she is the one who taught me how to cite and went over it with me! She is ridiculous! AVOID AVOID AVOID!

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH KAREN. I cannot stress this enough. I had Karen for a first year GNED course and am a strong writer, receiving A's in all of my previous classes. Karen is not only vague, opinionated and confusing, she also grades as if we were 4th year English majors. Avoid at all costs.

First teacher to ever make me like English class... and make learning new writing techniques while being able to get good advice on how to make it better. The readings and at home videos to watch really get you thinking....

The material was interesting, but Karen is a terrible prof. She has too high expectations. She assigns too many assignments and makes you work for a passing grade. Avoid her if you can.

Karen is a fantastic prof. Genuinely cares about her students' well being and success. Her course format makes for more work throughout the semester but is SUPER beneficial at the busy end of the semester. She is open/interested in all her students' ideas. I would 100% take another course with Karen. Great at teaching and a really lovely person.

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!She is so unclear on her expectations & its impossible to know what she is looking for. She never provided the class with an outline on ANY assignment she would just briefly discuss it and you were pretty much left to "guess" what she wanted. Her lectures were hell and I would strongly suggest to take another prof

Topics in the Long 18th Cent - Gothic Literature. I absolutely hated it. Way too dry and uninteresting. Manarin seemed to have a pissy attitude every class and there was something about her that rubbed me the wrong way. She assigned a lot of minuscule essays/reports that were time consuming and useless. She was a tough marker and very subjective.

I am an English major and have done quite well in all of my classes, until this one. Karen offered no help at all on assignments, does not know her MLA, and her lectures were very dry. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER. It's for your own safety!

I really liked her UNTIL I took her class. Terrible marker, offered NO constructive criticism. Took marks off because she said I used MLA incorectly, but 4 other profs said it was correct (she needs to touch up on her MLA before criticizing it). I have yet to speak to another student who acutally enjoyed this class. Worst prof Ive ever had.
