Comment:

Karen Ernst (now Karen Paul) is the best math teacher I've ever had. Calculus is incredibly hard, and she makes it a very approachable topic. All the lectures are recorded, she does tons of examples with you, and nothing on the tests should be a surprise. This class is challenging, but definitely manageable if you remember how to use algebra.

Comment:

Karen is probably one of the best math teachers I've had. Even when I have no clue what's going on in a unit or a problem, she's able to get me back on track and help me understand it. She's also a very nice and genuine person who actually cares about your success. Her tests are easy if you do even a small amount of studying.

Comment:

Taking Calc I with Karen was probably the hardest math class I've taken so far, but she made it very manageable. There were some extra credits on each quiz and test that banked up and really helped me feel comfortable. My favorite math teacher ever!

Comment:

Karen does a great job of teaching the material and building from one lesson to the next. Showing up to class and doing the homework made this class an easy A. Homework is all due the day after the test and the tests aren't difficult, just enough to cover the material basics.

Took for calc. Just show up and pay attention. Take notes. If you don't understand it then go through practice problems. Pretty straightforward class. No mandatory homework; 100% of your grade is assessments (final, exams and quizzes). The assessments aren't very hard though, they're just like the problems you do in class. Again, straightforward.

I like Karen a lot - she taught at UNI that semester and her skills as an educator puts UNI Math Dept in the trash (yes, everybody else is just grumpy and unhelpful, ever). She's very clear and helpful, very dedicated, and surely goes the extra mile to help you. Very sweet lady, and she genuinely cares. Highly recommended.

Possibly the best math teacher I've ever had. She moves very fast, but her notes are easy to follow, and she explains everything well, and answers questions very clearly. Very little scored homework, but lots of suggested practice problems. The tests aren't easy, but not bad if you've done the practice problems and taken notes in class.

I have had 3 Calc classes with Karen. She is seriously the most thoughtful, dedicated, and amazing professor I have ever had. If you struggle in math I HIGHLY recommend you try to take a class with her.

GREAT TEACHER! I had taken Calc1 before and never understood a thing. She taught everything very clearly and made it easily understandable. Was great at making time to help students individually too. She catered her test to the class too. Awesome teacher!

Karen is an amazing teacher! She helped me so much at hawkeye and now I go to UNI and I still come back to hawkeye for her help! She is even lending me her TI 89 for calc 2 at UNI ;) she is awesome! I highly recommend her to anyone!

Great math teacher. I had not taken a math class for over five years, and I jumped right back into it with her help. She is easy to talk to and very good at understanding things one may have problems with. She's relaxed and fun to have in class. I would recommend her to anyone.

Karen is a great teacher. Came into calculus with a clear understanding of pre-calc and she furthered my knowledge of calculus greatly. Taught concepts very well and went through the textbook how she felt was helpful and not how the book did, which was awesome! Highly recommend taking her!

She's the best math teacher I've had so far :) She teaches calc so well, and I actually understood it. She doesn't throw the hard problems on tests, but you still have to understand the concepts. I never thought I would have passes calc with a good grade, but Karen made that possible. Take her if you can, she's amazing!

Karen is a very nice lady and understands that not everyone is at the same mathematical level. The only thing that bothered me is that she tended to have a ton of downtime in class and that drove me nuts. If you are super good in math and HAVE to take this class, try to take it with someone else or test out of it unless you want an extra studyhal

She was a great teacher for the summer stats class. She understood that math wasn't everyone's thing and really tried to make the examples practical. Definitely recommended to other students!
