Comment:

Worst teacher ive had. Rude to the students. If you have any questions to ask she makes you go to office hours. Nitpicky about every little thing. Exams are hard and are not like the homework, no notes allowed. Everyone i talked to in my class agreed that she was horrible. If class gets cancelled she makes you self teach the math!

Comment:

Hybrid class, so we met only 1x a week. The homework and quizzes were online. The quizzes aren't hard if you work on the chapter she assigns for the week. It's timed though but she gives 2 tries. She also has in text homework, which can be difficult, so check in w/ her or math tutors. She doesn't always explain in the best way, but she's fair.

Laurie is my absolute favorite professor at WOU I took her for 211, 212 and 213 and I'm crushed that I can't take her for 396. She is incredibly organized and you always know exactly what she wants from you. She gives the perfect amount of homework and pushes us to do our best. She jokes with the class and loves you as long as you respect her

She is so rude and very condescending. Wrote the book we use so she goes on tangents about the pictures in it and overworks the students at the same time. She will dedicate the time to you if you ask for it, but she is so cranky and moody that it is just honestly not worth it.

Her directions are crazy long and super specific. Her grading at the grad. level is very discouraging. She'll rip your work to pieces, but then with her curve you end up with like a B-. Very little positive feedback and very time-intensive. She is hard working, though.

Dr. Burton is definitely the worst professor I've had by far and I'm not being ridiculous, I'm being honest. I've taken 2 math classes from her and both experiences were terrible. Her expectations are ridiculous and her way of teaching takes most of the class like two class periods to actually understand. Just terrible. Don't take her.

Worse professor I have had here. Very unorganized and not helpful at all, especially if you're not comfortable in math to begin with. Has absolutely no respect for students and doesn't care if she embarrasses students. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone!

I do not reccommend Laurie Burton at all! Especially if you don't feel confident about math in the first place.There is a lot of busy work, but she expects you to understand the material on your own. Her tests were horrid and she will not let you ask homework questions in class, only during office hours! Worst math teacher I've ever had!

Brainy, quirky, PhD who wrote the book for the 211 series. If you ask, she will go beyond all expectations to help. Her sight being challenged is no biggie: just work, and write clearly! Great old school dedicated teacher.

Took 211,212,and 393 from Dr. Burton. Classic token blind lady. All in all knows what she's talking about, but has very particular expectations. Don't try and take advantage of her being blind- she'll memorize the sound of your work boots and mark you tardy when you walk in late, lol! Great prof- take a class from her if you get the opportunity!

I did well in Burton's class but I would not recommend her to someone who struggles with math and doesn't do well with a lot of busy work. I was not expecting this class to be so hard but if you turn in all your assignments and you work hard at each assignment you can get a good grade too.

I think she is an amazing teacher. She has a lot to offer the mathematic educational community. I will say that she does have a tendency to have a personality that you either 'click' with or not. I would recommend her as a professor.

I rarely complain about teachers but I really would not recommend taking a class from Burton. She can be rude, and wants things done EXACTLY her way, whether that works for you or not. There was a lot of work assigned that seemed just like "busy work" and was unimportant.

She can be flighty and unusual but she also shows a great love for the subject. The class can be interesting and you can learn a lot but I know of a number of students that had difficulty in the class. I will say that it's a class that I had to take more seriously than I expected.

This was THE hardest math class I've ever taken. This professor is not easy to understand AT ALL and I spent a lot of my time feeling very frustrated. I dreaded asking questions (in class AND afterward). Should have dropped this class when I had the chance. Talks about her chickens and other stuff too much. Not enough explanation for anything.

I was aprehensive about taking a class with Laurie--but I a REALLY glad I did. She is misunderstood and students just need to give her a chance. She's very bright and really does want her students to succeed. She isn't going to accept any ridiculous excuses for poor performance. Be on time and offer her a little respect--you'll learn.
