I really want to like this guy, I do. But his lectures are unorganized, not even pertaining to an Ethnic Studies topic, or really, interesting at all. He excuses 2 homework assignments and 2 tests, but the tests are still ridiculously hard. Probably because he doesn't prepare you for them WHATSOEVER. He's retired now, and it's probably a good thing

he is a very interesting person(so are all other professors), especially his ethnic background. everything was unorganized, but everything was easy. he'd let you go if it was a sunny day. if you have any questions about homework or something, you want to ask him because he tells you most of the answers. bad thing, I didn't learn much from him.

ok.. so this guy was really nice, really cool, down to earth, and had a great sense of humor. the only problem was: TOTAL lack of structure. he constantly forgot deadlines for assignments & tests, and his mind was everywhere. most people would leave halfway through the class. we watched a LOT of movies. if you want an easy A, this class is for you.

Please don't have the wrong impression of Cathey. He is a really nice professor. Yes, he did get off topic all the time, and the final and the quizzes had material that he didn't really cover. But if you go to his office hours, he will be a lot more helpful. His class is easy because he does not take attendance, and we watched movies.

I did not learn anything from this class. We were only learning material from Chapter 2 in our text and he expected us to have read the whole book. The final was a joke (in a sense where I did not know half the questions he asked) and the study guide did not help at all. I received a lower grade than I thought and I was very disappointed.

Unorganized. Professor Cathey does not follow the syllabus, leaving all of us confused. If you want to do well on the homework, quizzes, and tests, be prepared to figure it out yourself. I received an A in the course, but would have been more happy if the class was better structured.

This was a very interesting and entertaining class. i was surprised to see that many students disliked his class. just because he jokes around a lot doesn't mean you don't have to take him seriously. that's what it seemed like. just show up to class, and it'll be positive. interesting and fun class overall! Fun teacher, but not serious. Gets off topic often and doesnt seem to teach everything that ends up in final. The final was totally different from what he taught in class but we didnt learn anything in class but jokes. If you're serious about school, this isnt the class for you but if you want a good time, take him.

Terrible,learned nothing,saved all the assmt(5) and quiz(5) for the last 3 weeks of the semester,we didnt even do all of them,doggy is 70+ years old, jokes too much,forgets stuff,funny man though,helps if you are filipino..is never on schedule..everything is scattered everywhere..like my review. forget the book, use wikipedia and find an e-book..

horrible teacher. avoid having him. never gave any tests/papers back. forgets what he's talking about during his lectures. his tests have nothing to do with anything he teaches and are very hard. ended up failing his class, and have to retake it next year.
