Comment:

I took his course online - which resulted in a huge mess. It became a much greater issue with assignments not matching, no assignments graded, AND SO MUCH MORE!! The week before spring break - my ONLINE class gathered to speak to the FIR head, which he was able to get us a GA (HE saved the course)! He did have a hard year so I tried to understand.

The only grades you have are tests. No extra credit!!! BEWARE! you must learn on your own. He is not helpful at all. Hard to get a hold of and hard to talk to. Gets sick in class. Has bad handwriting. He may have a good heart but He really has no business teaching.

Professor Mathis is an excellent professor! His class is not as difficult as the others are making it sound. He is very nice and always pushed back due dates when the class complained. He almost always curves the tests. You do have to try in this class because it is a finance class, but if you try, you will do fine. He tries to help if you ask

Comment:

He was an alright teacher, not too bad. Sometimes his notes on the board can be all over the place but if you sit in the front and pay attention you should be fine. He gave study guides before each exams and answered the questions the class before test day. Overall, he's pretty average.

He isn't clear in explaining, his handwriting is terrible, and he is too quiet for a large class size. His review sheets have tons of mistakes. He doesn't really help out, but he is fast in responding in emails. You have three test and homework, but the test are so hard. No extra credit is given. If you are a visual learner, do not take his class.

I would suggest not taking him if you are looking for an easy grade. He only give 4 exams which are extremely hard. No homework or extra credit. You would do better just reading the book on your own and going to tutoring than expecting him to be helpful.

Take him if you can. Multiple choice is more difficult than expected but overall if you simply show up and pay attention he will teach you what you need to know. Not hard-but would recommend coming to class in order to pass.

He likes to talk. Great professor! The way he teaches makes the complex material very understandable. Do not second guess choosing him! One of my top 5 favorite professors at the university. Tests are very fair and teaches you everything that will be on the test.

Nice guy, and very helpful. Take notes, and do the HW and practice problems online and you'll be alright on the tests. Hardest part of the tests is the multiple-choice section that is conceptual. The problem solving section is open book.

Teaches very well, shows you the hard way first so that you will appreciate working problems the easy way. Grade is 3 test, a final, and hmwk PLEASE DO ALL HMWK has it will improve your grade and understanding on test. Test are part M/C and part Finance problems. 1st test is the harder of the 3 so pay attention in class and ask ?????? I got a B.

Comment:

Instructor is kind and has good teaching skills. This class might be a little tough for some people, but what you'll learn are fundamentals which are important in finance. A good majority of his students pass with good grades, according to 2010 grade statistics. Highly recommended.

Great teacher and makes class fun. Provokes great discussion. Highly recommend for those interested in the field of finance. Negative comments are probably from students with low analytical skills as the course is required for a B.B.A.

He doesn't really help you. He said he dosen't care. this instructor is not professional. The book for this class will throw you completely off because the book has to many errors as far as the formulas.You really have to study the users guide for the HP 10BII calucator otherwise you will struggle with the formulas on the test. Dont use this Instr.

Entertaining Teacher, a bit cynical at times, but an overall good guy. His class really isn't that hard. Just come and pay attention and take notes, and study the formulas and you're good. I studied for about 1 hour before each test, and 10 min for the final, and passed with a B. He's really not hard if you pay attention.

Mr. Mathis is very entertaining and makes it easy to understand the material. There was only one test and it was only a few short essay questions.
