Comment:

Took his class last fall and let me tell you this isn't an easy going class BUT I learned more in this class than in all the other classes that I've taken so far. Be prepared to write A LOT for the essay on the 3 tests. Take down as much notes you can and read. Show him that you care too, he was nice enough to drop my lowest test score.

Comment:

One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is truly a gem and knows exactly what he's talking about. Literally an encyclopedia of information. You have to write a lot of essays but just know that at the end, it is 100% worth it. One of the best teachers at GCC, hands-down.

Our 1st test (Fall 2019) was on the Constitution, then presidents and elections (from Eisenhower to Reagan), then for the final 4 case studies he assigned. Write as much as you can! It was boring, but you'll only need to remember the class notes and read the assigned book chapter passage. He also gives many extra credit opportunities.

Comment:

Enjoyed his class and lectures! Youll really learn a lot in his class. He makes lot of funny jokes and hes really passionate about his job. There are 3 exams and if you take notes, read the chapters he gives youll be fine. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Comment:

This is an essay heavy class. He gives 3 tests and they are multiple choice (easy) and essay (ridiculously hard). I've been to every class and lecture and this class is cancer. Guess what the final is. We take everything we learned in the last 4 weeks and summarize it into a 8 page essay that we have to complete in a two hour period. Trash teacher.

do not take this class if you value your time. he uses very annoying and loud VHS tapes in class, pauses them every second, skips through it and gets irritated when we dont know where he last left off. ive come to this class everyday and i take notes everyday. he has no study guide and doesnt use canvas. there are better professors at gcc.

He likes to mumble. He wants you to regurgitate everything he went over in class. You need to take good notes or you will not pass. Before the first test, I studied my a$$ off and wrote what he asked. Im left with a straight 80%. The tests only get harder. He wants you to research by yourself. He wouldnt teach half of what he wants you to write.

He honestly knows his material. You NEED to attend class in order to pass. There is no way to skip out because whatever he says is on the exam. His tests are all essays and 15 to 20 multiple choice questions. Overall, very good.

He makes learning so interesting! I'm not huge on learning about history but he was very passionate about the topics and that made it very interesting. 3 tests, thats it. Great professor, he's very clear about what he wants on the exams. I got A's on all the exams, but i put a lot of work into the essays. Very easy class! you also HAVE to read.

Comment:

Professor Marashlian is extremely knowledgable and passionate in his teaching. I learned so much about the Armenian Diaspora in such little time. However, he is a tough grader and has high expectations in your three written exams (what your grade is composed of). Also, he offers a ton of extra credit throughout the semester.

One of the best Professor I ever had. 3 exams all citing what you learned in lectures. Make sure to mention key words from the textbook as well proving u read the book. He is a great professor and Ive learned a lot from him!

I had actually checked this page before taking his class but I thought I would make it by putting in hard work, even though he is a tough grader. He gives horrible lectures: they are unstructured, he only plays VCR tapes that make you go deaf and his instructions for everything are simply unclear. I wish I hadnt taken his class. Biggest regret.

HE ONLY HAS 3 EXAMS WHICH MADE IT LOOK EASY BUT HE IS A VERY TOUGH GRADER AND EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW IT ALL BY LIS LECTURES. HE IS VERY DIFFICULT AND RUDE. ALSO, HE MAKES NO SENCE WHEN HE GRADES BECAUSE HE IS A TOUGH GRADER.

Comment:

One of the best professors I have ever had in my academic career, probably the best. He shows you vhs tapes that he has recorded throughout as well as personal experiences he has had related to the class. He inspired me to become a historian and embrace the beauty of history specifically Armenian and Russian history. I cant thank him enough!!

Comment:

Professor Marashlian gives clear direction as to what he wants on his exams and what he doesnt want. He expects you to read the book on your own time and definitely do so as you should mention things not discussed in class to get a good grade. Attendance is always taken, and definitely go to extra credit so he will bump up your grade!

I've taken every course Professor Marashlian has taught. He is NOT an easy grader. He wants to know that you've learned the material you're being tested on. His 3 exams are in class essays but offers a lot of extra credit which gives you the opportunity to be bumped up at least half a grade. Creates his own teaching material. Unique but great prof.
