I would not recommend Luis for any class below the 300 level but he is genuinely my favorite professor at CMU. Hes funny and gets really passionate about the material. He makes you work for your good grades but also understands that if most students miss an exam question then he needs to reteach material. I wish I could take more classes with him!

Silva is tough if you haven't been exposed to Spanish before, but he is so funny and knowledgeable. I LOVED this class. He's full of jokes and "cultural moment" digressions that made learning fun. Our class would often stay behind just to learn more and laugh with him. Excellent professor!

He knows his stuff. If you read and go to class prepared it will click! He is a specialist in phonetics, grammar and that type of stuff which in my opinion is hard stuff. Glad that I was able to have him as an undergraduate professor.

He has a great personality, but can be difficult to understand. Someone else mentioned that he switches accents which is very confusing. I cannot recommend him past 111. He doesn't cover the course materiel well in the last 2 weeks, so you have entire chapters thrown at you and you have to figure them out on your own.

He might be a bit all over the place but he definitely knows he stuff. Missing a couple classes here and there won't kill you. He's a great guy and funny, the only downside is that he doesn't always answer your question clearly.

Is a very funny, enthusiastic guy but as a native Spanish speaker I even had a difficult time understanding him during class. I don't think it was fair for those who were actually learning Spanish that he would teach lessons with a Mexican accent then use his Spaniard accent during quizes, therefore confusing students.. overall great guy!

I really like his personality. He is a little quirky and difficult to understand at times, but I think that's because he speaks like 20 languages! He is helpful and is willing to explain one-on-one. Just show up everyday and enjoy the show!

I greatly enjoyed his 111 class but his higher level classes are a lot harder to understand. He's a little hard to understand at first but it comes with time. He is very intelligent and funny, but often times disorganized with the class.

Absolutly awesome to have a Spanish prof from Spain. All my previous Spanish profs disregard the Spanish Spanish. Totally different than a Latino prof. His accent is great. He's passionate and that is infectious. Most of my fellow students could care less but it is just my thing. In part, he has inspired my choice of major.

His accent makes the class almost impossible if you don't already know Spanish. Thankfully I do. And if you do, it's boring. He's strange.
