Comment:

Doesn't seem to know how to format online courses. She told the bookstore to order the wrong book so halfway through the course she changed everything. The old assignments are still on there, so it's confusing as to what you're supposed to be doing. She has some assignments sent to email, others on turnitin. SUPER INCONSISTENT. NEVER AGAIN.

Shaw is easily one of the worst professors at UNI. She treats you like you are a 3rd grader and copies all of her notes from someone else. She tries activities that make you feel like you're 4. You will learn nothing in this class, do not take it if you don't have to!!!

Everyone gives Marilyn a really hard time but I think her class is the most helpful one I've ever taken at UNI. I will use everything in her class in the real world which I think is important. Intro to Comm has a lot of busy work but its worth it. And she isn't that bad, just stay on her good side and come prepared.

Marilyn has a true passion for teaching. Although assignments can be confusing and the due dates are sometimes unclear, she is really nice and helpful. Lots of busy work but overall easy class!

I can't believe that I'm paying UNI to "learn" from a reader. She doesn't know her own material and puts everything she says on her powerpoint. Can't come up with anything on the spot. Constantly insults previous students' work. Confusing syllabus. Constantly condescending. If she wasn't the only one teaching the course, I'd say avoid at all costs

I didn't really learn a lot from her class, but I made a lot of friends. A lot of busy work. Tests are pretty hard, but she gives study guides which help a lot. A few papers and one group project. She grades pretty easy, you just don't learn anything too useful.

She was helpful one day, and completely unhelpful the next. I changed my major, because I kept getting screwed over by the waiting lists and how she had no interest in helping me get into classes, and she made me feel like I was worthless and everything was my fault.

I don't know what these other reviews are talking about. Marilyn is a great professor. I have learned a lot and the class is very interesting. She gives assignments to enhance the class and help students reach a new level of understanding, but the nice thing is that she lets you do it your way. She is a very kind and understanding teacher.

She is really nice and a decent teacher. I have her for an adviser, the only thing is that when you have her for more than one class the stories get repetitive and that could get annoying. You really need to read the book cause her class is really just an outline.

The most useless adviser I've had the misfortune of dealing with. Communications students should utilize the registrar's office. DO NOT LISTEN TO HER! You will get screwed majorly and she will make it sound as if its your fault. Please UNI FIRE HER!

Marilyn Shaw is my advisor, and I had debated changing my major just because of her. She is a terrible advisor, impossible to get ahold of, and will not respond to your emails. Her system of the waiting list for classes is impossible. I would avoid her AT ALL COSTS!

Nice person but the class is a complete waste of time. Do not take it- she likes to talk- but not over any material in which you will be tested on. You would learn the same amount just buying the textbook and reading on your own than wasting the time sitting through her class.

Marilyn tries to be approachable, but her teaching style just isn?t accessible. Her lecture consists of her reading directly from a Powerpoint, & her quizzes are take-home but want miniscule information. The portfolio is kind of cheesy but an interesting concept. Treat her with respect (& suck up a little,) & you?ll be fine advising-wise or other.

Everyday of class is somehow about her and little to do with the class. One day we went through what was in her purse for 45 minutes...SERIOUSLY!!! She then gives quizzes in which you're supposed to know things that she hasn't been teaching. Not to mention as an advisor she told me it "wasn't her job" to help me, she should be fired.

Don't take her if you can help it. She is unclear, rambling, condescending, and overall her lectures provide almost no useful information. She puts very little effort into teaching the class. I was NOT impressed. I had her only to get written into a class and she did NOT treat me with respect at all. I was not pleased with her tone of voice and I was not pleased with her overall attitude towards me. While writing me into the class she complained about how busy she was. So then quit! You're already worthless so you won't be missed!
