Michael Gomez is quite possibly the worst professor I have ever taken. Very serious and does not take taking a required language course lightly. Will fail you.

Gives the most obscure references and expects you to know them/understand what he's talking about. His lectures are so cluttered and hard to follow. I didn't get much from his lectures because he doesn't make definitive statements, everything is relative to the point that you don't know what he's trying to teach you.

I took this as a Maymester, which probably wasn't wise, because there were five tests, meaning there was a test every other day. From the period of time that I have gotten to experience him, he seems very cool, participating in class is v important, and I feel like if I'd had a the full 12 weeks instead of just 12 days, i could have done better.

Really awesome guy and really cares about whether or not we understand the material. I struggled with spanish grammar until I took spanish 275 with him and now tenses come to me so easily when I'm speaking or writing in spanish. Homework isn't difficult, the tests are but he prepares you well. And he gives excellent feedback

He is of no help to his students and quickly chooses favorites in the class. If you are not chosen as one of those favorites then prepare for a rough semester. Picks on certain people for no reason and asks them the hardest questions, that no one would know. Overall he shouldn't be teaching with his lack of respect for his students that he has.

Astonishingly intelligent and well-read. It's intimidating but also really cool to just watch how his brain works. Hard to follow him sometimes. Discussion is definitely a bit of a continued lecture, but I didn't mind that. Tough grader but not impossible; just show you're trying and you'll be fine. He & Ganaway balance each other out very nicely.

Dr. Gomez is an amazing professor. He was understanding about issues his students had and was willing to meet outside of class if there were any questions. Participation is MANDATORY but it helped so much with tests and quizzes because you got practical experience. I would absolutely take him again.

He is willing to make exceptions for situations that are unavoidable, but other than that he is of little help regarding the actual coursework. He speaks too quickly for those of us who never learned Spanish and grades very harshly. He has no note format and just writes haphazardly all over the board which makes it more difficult. STUDY EVERYDAY!!!

Professor Gomez is the worst professor I have ever had. He is a subjective grader and literally incomprehensible in class, never finishing a thought. He reads quotes from obscure philosophers in Spanish or even German and then never proceeds to explain their significance. Finally, he is disrespectful and demeaning towards his students. Avoid!

He does his best to help you polish your Spanish. The tests are very straightforward and the homework never takes long. Be prepared to answer questions about your life in class but it helps with your conversational skills. The grading is very fair. Not extremely interesting because it is a review class but he understands that.

Professor Gomez is my favorite professor at the college so far. I enjoy his class very much. There is consistant homework but it only takes a few minutes to complete each night. He is a reasonable grader and his tests contain exactly what he tells you they will. I was worried about this course being too hard, and ended up receiving an A! Take him!

He spent the entire class spewing useless information about English and Russian philosophers and got personally insulted that I'd never read their works. All he did was have us read books we didn't understand so he could be patronizing when we asked ~stupid questions. Don't take his class if you want leave with any understanding of the material.

Avoid at all costs. Sees you as a number and not as a student. Does not care about you as a person and will make no attempt to assist you in growing as a person or a student. Only cares if you know the facts and can recite the information and not if you comprehend the material nor if you learn anything in the class.

Gomez's middle name is most certainly arrogance. He cares little about the opinions of those in class, cuts-off Dr. Ganaway whose actually teaching, and rambles about Spain, when it certainly does not apply. His thinking rivals that of his literary hero Don Quixote; it's bewildered, confusing, and delusional.

Gomez is one of the most difficult teachers I've had. If you don't write the exact way he likes, he will mark you down on your papers. Also, his comments in class are sometimes very difficult to understand, and he tends to get frustrated when nobody in class can answer his questions in a certain way. He WILL help you if you ask for it, though.

Prof Gomez is a really great guy and definitely knows his stuff; however, he turned the discussion portion of western civ into just another lecture. I personally thought it was fine because I didn't have much to say about the readings anyway, but it really hindered the discussions of people that wanted to talk about the literature.

Comment:
These Western Civ comments are too harsh. Gomez does ramble at times, but his information is relevant and if you pay attention, you'll learn a lot. His grading is fair if you actually put forth the effort. He basically tells you what he wants to see on tests and papers. Civ is hard to begin with but he does a good job of making it interesting.

He's really good looking - and he knows it. He's an okay guy, but as a professor he is arrogant, completely subjective in grading, and loves to hear himself talk. He gives so much useless information, it's difficult to wade through it all. As long as you give him what he wants to see on essays, you'll do fine, but that's easier said than done.
