Comment:

This guy is a champ. Had him over the summer, he actually made ECON 100B enjoyable, even though the class was 3 hours long. I wouldn't have wanted any prof for that long, but Noel is entertaining and laid back enough to make it a good 3 hours in class.

Comment:

Professor Noel is a cool guy and very intelligent. He has a Phd from MIT so that can initially be intimidating. As long as you attend lecture and review your notes, everything from homework and the tests are manageable. This is one of the harder econ courses I took at UCSD but I honestly feel like it is one of the most useful and interesting

Let's just say I'm doing you a favor by saying don't take this professor!!!! His lectures are just him basically going over theoretical staff and he never takes the time to go over examples or problems in details. The lack of detailed examples in lectures makes it extremely frustrating since there's no teaching assistant for the class.

If you are the person who study by understanding the materials, then you have no problem with Dr. Noel. He might be tough for you if you are the person who only memorize the stuff or study by Econ tutor, then I recommand you to take professor Tang, you will get an easy grade from her. If you want to understand in depth of Economics, take his class!

He is very funny and always telling jokes in the class. The beginning of the class is a little bit confusing, but as long as you study the material, you will have a better understanding everything. Doing problem sets is necessary if you want to get a good grade. Besides that, you must comprehend the material and be flexible during exams.

This is probably the most challenging Economics course you will have to take. He does his best to make the class interesting and easy to understand. It's YOUR job to put in the time and effort. Do not try to memorize, you WILL FAIL. Too bad he is leaving. Overall a great teacher and his grading curve is very generous.

Awesome prof. Funny and entertaining even though it's pretty intense. The course is hard, you want him to teach it to you so it makes sense. Best prof at ucsd. Tells you exactly what's on the exam, did practice final in last week, exam exactly the same but different u functions as he said. Office hours every day. Keep up, listen, you're okay.

Loved this professor!!! Knows his stuff, teaches well, super nice guy. Requires his students not to be lazy and actually do the work and keep up with the material. Do what is asked and you'll fly right on by with a great grade. Know your calc though. Overall great guy!

Great teacher! Material is hard not him! Love his lectures, funny guy who loves to help out his students and wants them to succeed. Take if you want to really learn the material well. Be prepared to study. Although it's not as hard as people hype it up to be. Just don't be lazy and you'll be just fine!

excellent professor with horrible exams. teaches the material SO WELL but will definitely screw you over with the exams, especially the final (I nearly cried!). take him if you are looking for a challenge, but just know that your effort may NOT pay off.

ridiculous. I studied so much for the final and still did not do well on the final. knew the material, but the final was ridiculously hard. definitely do not take him. hes too smart for his own good to be teaching an econ class of this level

The midterm was representative of the class material, but if you did poorly there you don't have a shot in hell at passing. The final is brutal, and my brutal I mean bust out the KY Jelly because there is no way you are getting out of this one alive. It doesn't help that he claims its easy because he solved his own final in 15 minutes. Congrats?

I went into this class thinking that all of the bad comments about this prof were just people who were bitter about not doing well in the course. Having taken this prof's class, I now agree with many of the comments. The midterm and final did not reflect the classwork and problem sets provided. Please, for your own sake, do not take this professor!

He was an okay professor, but I felt bored during the classes. The midterm was representative of class material, but the final was definitely off-course: excessively difficult and not a good representation of the course. As far as studying for those, study the things that are NOT on the practice midterm or final, rather than the things that are.

Avoid at all cost. Absolutely terrible professor. Lectures are mostly theoretic based does not go over on how to the problems in detail. Problems sets and lectures did not reflect final at all. Even if you know how to do all problems and went to every lecture you still have high chance of failing final. This guy should not be teaching.

Professor Noel does a great job explaining the subject. He offers plenty of help for struggling students, and he tells you pretty much whats on the midterm and final. If you dont do well in the class its because you didnt put the work in.

Difficulty of the class is really overstated because the first midterm basically revolved around solving ONE problem and it's a problem he does almost every lecture. He even tells us exactly what's on the midterm and gives us plenty of office hours and review sessions, so he doesn't deserve the bad ratings he gets on here.
