This class was very hard, and during lectures she really just rambles and you are never sure what to write down. She expects you to read and already pretty much know the material when she is talking about it in class. The papers and tests are your grade, there is no homework. With the papers, there are no instructions so you have to figure it out.

Just be clear this is a level 100 class, yet it is formatted for history majors. I took this class to get my history credit for cal lu. Biggest mistake ever. She's not a bad person, just a bad professor. If you ask questions about anything, she acts like you should've already known the answer. I was clueless on what to do for my papers.

Reaves is frustrating. Most of our work is graded through papers and tests, both of which are difficult to get through. Essays have very little direction and have us looking through a BROAD source of useless information to find something VERY specific. PowerPoints arent posted, and Study Guides are never given for tests. "Study everything" -Reaves

Never in my life have I had a teacher/professor that has been more vague with his/her assignments. Absolutely zero direction on what to do on papers. Had to rely on a classmate who had taken her class before to tell me what to do. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES. I made the mistake of not checking this site before taking this class.

really nice person and very smart but the class is very hard. if you're taking her class I'd suggest making a planner so you know everything that is going on and is upcoming. pretty much nobody gets higher than a 75 percent on tests and quizzes so study a lot and do all the homework

This was a very challenging class, as the history department at Cal Lutheran generally is. Dr. Reaves is a good professor and is very clear in her grading criteria, that being said it is a very tough criteria. The twelve point scale can be confusing and it is often difficult to figure out what your grade in the class is. Overall a good Gen Ed class

I was put into her class freshmen year, almost everyone failed all of her quizzes and midterms. She is very interesting but talks fast and you barely have time to write down what's on the slides let alone what she is discussing about them in depth. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. Extremely bias and unfair. If you do not agree with her opinion, expect her to treat you horribly for the semester.

Horrible teacher. She is inappropriate, opinionated, and biased. Makes you feel bad about yourself and it's hard to do anything right in her class. She grades extremely tough and gives little guidelines on what she is looking for. Asked a question about clarification on an assignment once and she mocked me.

Constantly goes off topic, class presentations are random, very judgmental and opinionated about topics that have nothing to do with the class but will make sure to bring them up at least 3 times during one lecture.

Dr. Reaves is the most knowledgeable professor/person I know. Her classes are not an easy GPA boosting class, but the information that sticks with you after taking a class with her is definitely worth what you are paying for. There is a lot of reading, but everything she assigns has value to it. She genuinely cares and helps with anything she can!

People warned me about taking Dr Reaves and I wish I would have listened to them. She never stays on topic and goes on about random things that seem kind of inappropriate and weird. She has super unrealistic standards that are impossible to meet and she is never clear on what she is looking for on assignments or tests. Don't take this professor.

Dr. Reaves is tough but, if you ask for help, if you're a B student, she will help you and push you. If you're an F student, she will help you more, but you have to put in the work. History at CLU is tough, but you'll learn and it will stick. Dr. Reaves, expects you to do the work, it's what you're paying for and she is wicked smart.

LOVED PROFESSOR REAVES. She believes in keeping a traditional classroom, and her classes are typically filled with a long lecture. She never takes a bias, and always offers further explanation and help during office hours. I went to her for help on a big paper and she was 100% willing to help me earn an A. She's not easy, but you will learn.

A lot of people think she's a wonderful teacher, but honestly I just don't see it. Her teaching methods are very ineffective -- no powerpoints, lectures are off topic, and no one knows what to expect for the quizzes. She is set in her ways and will highly doubt on changing her teaching style.

Dr. Reaves definitely knows her stuff but her class was very difficult. She moves through the information extremely fast and she never really tells you what is going to be on the quizzes. I recommend starting her papers a month in advance because you have to do a ton of research and if your format and usage is not correct you won't do well.

Comment:
The major complaints I've seen about Dr. Reaves is that she's a difficult grader and her lectures don't make sense. But if you see her during her office hours, she'll sit and work with you until you understand what's going on. And yes, she'll spend 10 minutes talking about the Kardashians in the beginning of class. Better than an hour of monotone.
