She gives great lectures but she has tricky test. She doesn’t give you a study guide and most of the tests questions come from class discussion, however there is also a great amount from the book. Readings are massive (in my opinion).

The class was kind of hard. If you missed a class, then you really had to catch up. But she doesn't mind repeating herself and taking time to make sure you understand it. You really get what you deserve in her class.

Her class is very difficult. Her voice is very boring, and causes you to go to sleep. Her study guide for the test sucks. Half of my class failed..tragic.

I thought she was a great teacher. Tests are extremely easy if you have even half a brain. Homework is easy, but not sure what standard she uses to grade it. She loves her field so that makes her class interesting. I would definitely recommend taking her 100 class.

Comment:

Lectures are normally interesting. Homework grades are very subjective though it's hard to tell if you are passing or failing when number of check marks indicates your score. The tests aren't too hard as long as you study. She demands a lot out of her students even just at the 100 level.

She is an excellent professor if you have prior knowledge of the subject. She is unable to explain the subject matter in more than one way. For example, if you ask her to explain the notes she's given, she will simply repeat what she has written. She lacks the cognitive flexibility to explain things through any means other than lexical definition.

Dr. Finley is great! The grade: 3 exams (read the book/go to class), homework (which she lets you redo until you get it right), and a research paper. She sometimes gives test bonus points in class. All she really cares about is that her students think and is incredibly helpful. Do not take her if you don't want to use your brain. Loved her class!!

This is a professor will work with you as little as possible if she does not like you. I remember she was reviewing a test, my friend had the same answer only difference was synonyms, I asked her why my answer was incorrect and her answer was, "because you put the wrong answer".Talks about theories like their laws, taking anyone but her if possible

Comment:

Dr Finley is a great teacher, you'll actually learn about Sociology from her. You have to show up to class and take notes if you expect to do well on the test. The tests are moderately difficult, but if you study the notes and read the book you'll be fine. The research paper is easy enough if you choose a good topic. Great discussions in her class.

Ms. Finley does not follow a real grading structure. It is made up by her own standards. Her notes are just scribble on the whiteboard. Her tests answers are not in the book. For an entry level class she is too strict on her grading and her tests are not easy. I would not recommend her for an elective.

Ms. Finley was extremely clear and helpful. Incorporates her OWN real world research. Something i rarely see in liberal arts courses. Finley made Sociology enjoyable, and i could not wait to attend her class daily. Beware of verbal tricks though, Finley chooses words carefully in person and on tests.

Knows what shes teaching about, but teaches as if you were a sociology major. Tests are VERY difficult, and she says her average grade is a sixty eight. I would recommend taking ANY other teacher.

She teaches the class like a 100-level but grades it like a 400-level. I absolutely regret choosing this instructor and recommend taking this class by someone else. Our grades were based on 3 exams and 1 essay.

She will challenge you, even at the 100 level classes, but the good news is if you take her for upper division courses, you will do really well because you'll understand her method. She is a wonderful teacher who expects you to work. (Lots of people are afraid of that).

Dr. Finley is one of the best professors I've ever had. I am not a Sociology major, but I loved this class and wish I could take more; I learned so much. She is a friendly, engaging lecturer and she has a great sense of humor. She is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed. The tests are not hard if you focus in class, take notes, and study.

Mrs. Finley is an average professor. Her multiple choice tests are her downside. She can be very tricky on the wording on the tests, however, she is extremely extremely helpful. Loves teaching. Average professor. A better professor is Mary Laska. Try to take her. If Mary is not there, Finley is ok to take. Average professor.
