Amazing teacher! I hated philosophy, but he made it really interesting. No quizes or tests, just papers-which he grades pretty fairly! I recommend you go to the writing center, you will get bonus points added to your paper! You have to stay the entire time, but he made the time go by fast, and sometimes he will even bring in donuts for the class:)

This professor is very interesting to listen to, with his background in law and the military. He is also very funny. Although three papers sounds awesome, they are graded kind of tough, and there is no rubric for the papers which makes it difficult. Extra credit is one point for going to the WRT center. Its easy to pass, but good luck getting an A.

This prof. is by far the best the I have ever had. His class left me with a different perspective on philosophy, politics, culture, and religion. It's by far the most interesting class that I have had and it naturally encourages you to explore your own thoughts and one feels more than welcome to have a different opinion than his classmates/prof.

Extremely interesting guy to listen to. He only assigns three essays throughout the whole class as your grade, but does offer extra credit for taking your paper to the writing lab. He will also sit down and look over your paper for you. Pretty easy class if you go class and pay attention. He makes sure everybody understands the subject.

I absolutely loved him for Ethics class!! He made it fun and interesting. He's hilarious and only assigns 3 papers. No tests/exams! His personality was amazing and I can't imagine learning this material from any other professor. He challenges what you think you know and you just learn so much from him. He gets my highest recommendation!!!

Absolutely hated this class. Extremely disorganized. Bought six books, one of which we only read a third of, and one of which there was a free translation available online (provided for students who couldn't find it at bookstore while the rest paid). Spent last month of class on last four books (a book or two a week). Horribly disorganized!

I had Prof Goetting last year and really really liked him. He didn't believe in tests or quizes and the class was SWS so all we had was 90% writing (3 papers worth 30% each) and 10% participation. We always had good conversations and very unbiased. EC was offered often as well. HE's great!

I had this class for 3 hours two nights a week, and I actually liked going to class. He promoted very good discussion and was very unbiased. I liked writing papers to decide my grade. You should be a pretty good writer since there are no tests. Alot of reading, but good discussion. He is the best philosophy teacher at Grand Valley

Comment:
Prof. Goetting is a little eccentric, definitely caught up in the world of philosophy. He's a little lazy when it comes to grading: 3 essays are worth 90% of the final grade. The lectures are inspiring but don't really teach you anything. Very subjective grader, does not define grading method well.
