I had her for 2 classes this semester. I got a D barely in both of them. I was really frustrated in this class b/c I got the notes and read the textbook for hours when studying. However, the test (which are all multiple choice) is very confusing and not straightforward. I feel like it didn't truly test my knowledge with out trying to trick me :(

Lectures are extremely boring. She does not use power point, just talks. Goes over the material quickly. Gives you a handbook, which is the only decent part of this class. 4 exams, no homework, no quizzes, and no extra credit. If you fail one exam do not expect that you will pass.

The four exams are what make up your grade, and they're really difficult. The material isn't complex, but there is just a lot of it and she asks really specific questions. I had her for 3830 and it was such a better class all around. She's a great teacher and so sweet, but I would take someone else for 3400.

I took both Lifespan and Abnormal with Dr. Alley. She is a knowledgable, caring professor. The tests are comprehensive to the material and exact wording she uses in lectures. If you go to every class and take good notes that you read through before the test, this class CAN BE an easy A Go to office hours! Ask questions! She wants you to do well!

I thought it was fairly easy material because it seemed like stuff I learned about in previous psych classes, however; her exams are so insanely detailed. I took this class because I needed a GPA boost, but in the end I got a D. She doesn't provide any outside material, so don't take this class if you don't have the time to read the textbook!

Dr. Alley seems very passionate about the information. However, the class is taught in a very old school way and the only grades are 4 tests, with no assignments, curves, or extra credit to offset the tests. The tests are extremely difficult even if you understand the content because she asks questions about minor insignificant details. DO NOT TAKE

Dr. Alley is both passionate and highly respected in the psychology community. I respect her and think she is extremely intelligent but I think thats about the extent. Her teaching methods are super old school. No powerpoints, no homework, just 4 exams. Miss class and you will fail.

Dr. Alley is a great teacher, however her tests are insanely difficult. That would be okay if there were other assignments to offset this fault. However, you are only graded by 4 exams (including the final). Take someone else if you want a good grade.

This was by far the hardest class that I have ever taken. I am a straight A student and struggled to barely get a B on the first exam. Avoid taking at all costs!! Tests are extremely specific even though the information appears easy. There is only 4 50 point exams, so if you do even semi-poorly on the first one, it is pretty impossible to come back

This class looks easy in the beginning because the information she gives is very easy stuff. With that being said, this class is not a cake walk. I went to class almost everyday and wrote down almost everything she said and still managed to make a C and an F on the first two tests. She asks very meticulous questions so make sure you know EVERYTHING

I took Dr. Alley's Abnormal Psychology class as a psychology minor and enjoyed it! Having the manual as a guide and adding your notes to her outlines really helped me study. It's a very clear cut course of just 4 tests and no homework, tests are mostly based on her notes but some from the textbook as well. Definitely would recommend the class!

I loved Dr. Alley! She is very clear and organized- she gives you everything you need to do well on the exams. All you have to do is study it! To get an A, I had to study a lot for each test, but there are only four and they aren't cumulative. Tests are based off material from the notes she gives you, and a couple textbook questions. Great class!

I loved this class with Dr. Alley. I went to almost all of the lectures and hardly had to study much outside of class. She has a workbook that goes along with the course which makes it very easy to know what to expect on the exams and to fill out notes. She is such a sweet lady and really wants her students to do well. Would highly recommend.

I took Alley for 3830 and enjoyed having her as a teacher so much that I also took her for 3400. Her handbook is so helpful and she is very straightforward. Her tests are a little tricky but if you study enough it is definitely possible to do well. I would study 3-4 hours the night before each test and get A's. Definitely recommend her!

The tests are tricky; some of the answers only differ by a little bit. I found it to be interesting material, and I love how it was presented in the handbook; it made it easy to follow along. I did have to study a good deal, but it wasn't too strenuous. Overall, a good course to take.

Tough teacher. She drags on in lectures and gives A LOT of info quickly. Make sure you read the book because she gets multiple test questions from topics we didn't go over in class. She is not a quality teacher so if there is a different professor, take that person. If not, you will have to work for your grade, but it is possible to do well.

If you don't have to, don't take Alley. The test are incredibly difficult and the questions are totally out of left field. She picks the most minuscule details and puts them in the test. You have to memorize almost the entire DSM. I worked so hard in this class (studying around 10-13 hours for each test) and was only able to pull out a B.

Tests are multiple choic and mainly come from lectures. Some questions can come from the textbook, but if you read the chapter summaries you should be fine. The material can be interesting and she tries to include cool stories to help you remember info.
