Never ever take this class. All reading based and he does not discuss any of it. Went to his office hours to ask him about the specifics of the readings because I was a bit confused and he said, "Oh, I can't tell you that! That's going to be on the test!" Had to make it pass/fail and I don't even think I'm going to pass. :)

5 books, 3 tests, and that's it. There's no class participation, and the lectures don't often have to do with the books. He's an old grampa-esque guy and he's really nice, but is not the best intro-course professor.

He is very passionate about the material; really dives into the subject from a cultural perspective instead of American policy perspective. Incredibly interesting, at times little vague and frustrating, but ultimately worthwhile chill course

Amazing professor, so smart, cares about what he does. Excited to meet with you no matter the time. His tests aren't too hard, just pay attention in class. Really an amazing professor. Review the materials and you will do fine on the tests, it isn't too hard and is incredibly interesting.

Cultural Anthropology with Prof. Hill was so hard - its all reading based. Like no information in class is really ever on the test but attendance is mandatory. He does make cute little jokes every now and again but the reading was insane. You will have to learn every detail about not 1 but 5 difference societies! DO NOT TAKE

I had Cultural Anthropology with Prof. Hill. He gives only 3 tests, including a non-cumulative final. He gives you 5 case studies that you will have to read to pass the tests, and lectures on all the info you need to analyze the studies. He's a nice and funny guy though, but if you hate reading you won't like him.

Professor Hill's Intro to Cultural Anthropology my freshman year was, as far as I could tell, the most demanding reading-wise of the various professors' versions of it. The workload was small as a result, and Professor Hill did a lot to reach out to people just taking it for a core credit and people thinking about majoring.

He's such a sweet guy, but you are required to read five books over the course of the semester that are never mentioned or talked about in class. Three tests make up your entire grade in the class. The three tests are all based on those five books. It's a lot of reading and work for a newcomb required class. DON'T TAKE HILL. IT'S A LOT OF READING.

Terrible! I'm a Junior taking a freshmen class and I've never received such low grades in a class because his tests are the most ridiculous thing. His lectures are long and boring and his tests require written paragraph answers. Very tough grader and unspecific as to why you get marked off. I would avoid his class.

AVOID! He likes to grad you on obscure ideas he lectures on in class, and will not give you any help to study for the test. He is absolutely inflexible with his office hours and will not help you at all if you are struggling in his course. He loves the material he teaches but is very bad at actually conveying what he wants the students to know.

I took this class 2 years and I think this class was very interesting. Yes, this class is hard to the extent that he wants you to know crazy details, but who said college was going to be easy. I'm taking him again for his higher level class because he teaches this subject so well that I enjoy it

Horrific teacher, do not take if you want an easy A. Harder than my bio, gen chem and math class combined. Must know obscure details from the 5 assigned books that he never even mentions in class. No curve with the hard tests. Avoid at all costs.

Do not take Professor Hill for Cultural Anthro. Grading consists of three relatively hard, uncurved midterms and that's it. I got As in chem and cell bio but a B in this class; do NOT take this course with Hill if you're taking harder classes along with it. You won't have the time for the very in depth studying/memorization of the ethnographies.

Hill is an awesome dude; like most anthro. profs, he is a little odd, but in a good way. His lectures are really thorough, so the books are really only needed if you want to look extra info up for papers. He also doesn't really care if you show up or not (in his mind, it is not his problem if you pay that much for tuition and then waste it).

I love Professor Hill! He's engaging and funny, and he seriously knows everything there is to know about American Indians. That said, the only grades are a midterm (which consists of 3 essays) and a final (2 long essays), so keep that in mind -- but he's an easy grader on the essays. Take his class!!

Tough class. All the tests for Anthro come from 5 studies that you have to read. There is so much information to study for each test, it's ridiculous. If you're not majoring in Anthro don't take him.

Don't take Hill for Cultural Anthro. You can find someone better. No text book, just 5 ethnographies. Tests come from the notes he hands out at the end of the week and applying them to the 5 books. He does not and will not tell you specifically about the 5 ethnographies however, so tests are impossible.
