Comment:

Professor Capps wasn't the worst professor, but definitely not the best either. It was nice to have the class start off so slow, but it picked up very quickly. Get ready to put more work in at the end of the semester.

Dr. Capps is an interesting professor. This is a class that would be better to take online if it was offered. Just read and do the writing assignments. They are not long but you get great feedback from her. Your final is a group project.

I attempted to reach her outside of class and she seemed offended when contacted. It was 3:30pm on a school day. I had questions and expressed that I was confused. She ultimately made me feel like it was my fault that I didn't understand some things. I withdrew from the class. She also seemed to make students uncomfortable with roll taking methods

Hardly lectured or taught material. Her notes consist of writing one or two words on the board. All she does is talk about herself and her dogs. Wastes 15 minutes at the beginning of class every class period taking roll.

Comment:

I took Dr. Capps for intro to poetry and she was great. She is offbeat and witty and frequently adds personal anecdotes to her lessons. Perhaps not the most interesting class, but you need to come to pass. Ends up switching up assignments a lot to students' advantage. Writing is common, but always brief (think 1 page). Highly recommend.

Pointless. That is the one word that describes this whole class. I learned absolutely nothing the whole semester. Grades consisted of a lot of busy work that took up time and didn't teach anything. She is a harsh grader when it comes to papers so be ready to re-write. Attendance is mandatory which is awful because all you do is sit around...

She's really sarcastic and blunt, but she's a fun teacher. She wants you to succeed and gives a lot of easy assignments. The few papers we had, I didn't do super great on. I skipped class a few times and still managed to get an A. Take her if you get a chance!!!!!

She takes participation but what you do in class is so pointless. She gives you busy work during class and tells stories about herself until it is over. She is very strict on how she grades. She is a very nice lady and i enjoy her as a person just not as a teacher. Don't buy the textbook.

Ms. Capps is seriously awesome. She's really funny (dry humor) and really easy to talk to. She's really lenient about missing class and assignments but definitely do them. As long as you do your work and put in effort this class shouldn't be too difficult for you. She grades papers a little hard but it's because she wants you to strive to be better

Dr. Capps has been my favorite teacher at UT so far. Her class is an easy A if you do all of the assignments/extra credit she assigns. Talk to her, she's very understanding and if you forget something she was pretty lenient (with me at least) on letting me turn it in late and not taking off. Go to class and prepare to write.

Capps is a great teacher. She makes the class comfortable and enjoyable. As long as you at least put in an effort on your papers you will do totally fine. The journals aren't difficult and are usually just your opinion. The homework is insanely simple. She makes having to take a gen-ed not too bad.

Comment:

Dr. Capps is absolutely amazing! Her lectures are funny, and she really likes talking to students. Her papers can be hard, but if you're willing to work on them and talk to her about them, they should be a breeze. While we didn't have a text book, there were a lot of texts to read. Most of them were really interesting, so that isn't that hard.

Comment:

Classes are always interesting to see what she will say about the readings. Dark humor, really funny and fun to be around. Had a morning class with her and looked forward to having her start the day off on a good note. Grades papers pretty harshly, but lets you re-write if needed, and is willing to help as long as you ask. Overall, great!!

Capps is hilarious. You just have to be willing to work on your papers and talk to her if you need it. She is great to talk to so don't be afraid. I failed my first paper for her and after looking at her comments and fixing exactly what she said I did amazing. Take her.

You have one page papers you have to turn in almost every class period. She gives you 14 options for these papers, but you have to get 10 check pluses, so do them all. Theres a midterm and final and a research paper. Finals are identifying terms but you choose like 10 out of 50, the 5 quote identifications out of 20, and one essay out of 10 options

Dr. Capps is a really hard grader. I got an A in the class, but I REALLY had to work for it. On average, I spent about 6 hours in the Writing Center per paper, and I told her how hard I was working. She hands out grades, versus giving you what you deserve. I would never take her again.

I wouldn't recommend taking her for English, she only likes papers to be written the way she writes or you will fail them all. She allows rewrites for two papers but grades them even harder. Wouldn't recommend her for 101 because she grades papers like they are a 400 level class. I attended every class and participated and still did bad.

Omg she's so funny. If you don't get to know her she's a weird lady, but she's awesome. I definitely recommend going to her office hours. I'd go to talk about turning in a paper late and end up listening to duduk music with her. She's very lenient and though she sometimes gets off topic in class, Hw is easy, and papers are super straight forward.
