Comment:
Sharon Swenson is a stellar person. She is kind, understanding, and frankly a genius. Heck, she taught all the other TMA professors. Immature students whine about her classes because they'd rather be out shooting a commercial, but if you take time to listen and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T TALK OVER HER, you'll love learning from her.

Comment:
Sharon is a conundrum. She isn't the most clear about what she expects, so you have to do a lot of guessing. This class is extremely easy to get an A in, but you will have to go through it unsure if you're doing things right, only to have her tell you it doesn't matter how you do things. Difficult to learn to be a TA with that philosophy.

Worst teacher I've ever had, worst advisor in the film department. If you are looking for a great film teacher do not take her classes. Unfortunately, she teaches and you are stuck. She does not give feedback. Want a great mentor? No such luck with Swenson.

The overall class experience was unpleasant. I have had 3 classes from Sharon, all required and she was not inspiring as a teacher. Her teaching method is read, write, regurgitate - any connection to the subject studied will more likely only be gained independent of class. She seems to try, but also not to care.

I once timed class to see how much time was spent on film theory, and how much was spent on Sharon rambling on trying unsuccessfully to be funny; we spent fifteen minutes out of 2 hours actually covering the material. Save time, stay home, and just read the articles instead of getting her very watered-down, heavily biased, and confusing synopses.

I love Sharon. Just use your head to interpret what she is saying and you'll be golden. I think that most of my notes are just crazy funny things that she is always saying in class. More than that, she was always keeping up with me, giving me compliments and helping me succeed. She once e-mailed me when I missed class to make sure I was ok.

Class was poorly organized but always fun. Sharon is definitely a little scatter brained, but thats part of her charm. Lectures never really taught anything, but the labs did. The TA's did most of the work. It seemed as if Sharon would just show up and talk for a bit. A pretty easy class overall.

A sarcastic personality, but funny in that way, too. Lots of original little witticisms. Enjoyed the class, but it wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped for my major.

I have associated with Sharon a lot through and I must say, she really isn't impressive as a teacher. She's moody, incomprehensible, always 'conveniently busy', and is wildly self righteous. She is nice enough and I've heard from some students the complete opposite regarding her, but as far as I and most those I associate with, she's a joke.

She is much more helpful than everyone here says. If you let her know that your grade matters to you she will work with you to get that grade. At times a little hard to grasp, but she's a very nice person!

I have NO idea why Sharon's ratings are so low cause she's the bomb. i am someone who enjoy an easy laid back class and those who dont like her are probably those who enjoy Calculus. She is a crazy cat lady and really hilarious. She is very knowledgeable in film although she may seem off her rocker. i also recommend her international cinema class.

Professor Swenson is demanding but equally understanding. The subject of Film Theory is a challenging one but Sharon's pedagogical style and wit make the class enlightening and enjoyable. She caters assignments and types of homework to the student, depending on their learning ability/style.

Simply put- one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. All she cares about is video games and herself. She is moody, unhelpful and self righteous beond belief. If you have her- give her hell for me!!!

I have to say it- she is one of the most two faced, inept people I have ever met in my entire life!!! She decides who she likes and who she doesnt and then acts accordingly. I happened to be on her 'good side', but my friend wasnt so lucky and she basicly screwed him over- oh well, what can you expect.

Interesting. Not a very good source for information, unless it's video games (her interest). She's very moody, gets frustrated easily, andappears willing to help students, but is very "busy." Tries to be a nice lady

I loved her theory class and I still think about the theories when I watch movies. The "packet" is daunting but just keep up with her; the theories are really interesting if you want to learn them. She is one of the best teachers in the dept.

She is a really nice lady, and extremely helpful if you visit her during office hours. However, a big part of her Film Theory class involves learning how to interpret "The Packet." If you have to take Film Theory, you will soon be very familiar

Talk about a confusing professor. Nice lady, but a little loopy. Still, the opportunity exists to learn for those capable of interpreting her expectations. Good Luck. If you're reading this you probably have no choice in whether or not you take her class.
