Comment:
Prof. Hrabik was very clear on grading criteria and content for exams. He is very knowledgeable about freshwater ecology from his research, so he explained material well in lecture. Our grades were based mostly on exams and some in-class activities. I would take a class with him again.

The examples from his own work were really interesting. He gets outside speakers involved who let students know about local projects and opportunities. Great class.

Professor reads off slides but expects you to take supplementary notes which he does not provide very well or very often. He may be great for Ichthyology but for Freshwater Ecology he prefers to focus mainly on telling you about his own work and then testing you on it rather than giving you the general concepts of the field of science itself.

Horrible lecture. He wasn't clear on important information. Lectures drag on. Very uninteresting. Test questions were horribly written and as a result not a good measure of learning. Most questions were thrown out due to his errors.

Hrabik is a great professor! He made Ichthyology very fun and interesting. Had to memorize 100 fish species and their genus and species names. Don't listen to gen bio reviews because this is a totally different class.

Hrabik was awesome. The first 6 weeks we went outside for every class. Has a lot of stories and personal experience in ecology. This was one of my favorite classes i've taken so far in college.

His other class didn't have enough people sign up and was canceled so he was made TA of my ecology lab. I loved him, he's nice, very helpful, and knows what he's talking about. He may be different when teaching a lecture, but I didn't find him rude or boring at all. I really enjoyed class with him and want to sign up for one of his lectures.

He is soooo boring to lesten to. Good thing you don't have to attend his lectures since he posts the notes online anyways. His exams are ridiculously easy. Studying the night before is more than enough especially for the 2nd of his 2 tests.

All I have to say is he is totally unfair. He does not know how to teach and he was a jerk when you proved him wrong. (Or you tried to prove him wrong). He never could be wrong. He was the worst professor ever and everything I learned I learned in lab or on my own. He was worthless. Only take this class if you have to take it.

It's really unfair when a bunch of hoseheads from Gen. Bio. slam him for not teaching well, when really they don't appreciate or care about the topic. Hrabik is rock solid in Icthyology and really gets you interested in the material, despite some hard tests and intensive lab work.
