Avoid professor Collins if you can. She lectures about stuff no one understands and she's terrible at answering questions. Phil is hard and she just makes it harder. Also if you miss more than 2 classes your grade goes down. She thinks she knows all but can't answer simple questions. This class might as well be in Hebrew. 12/10 wouldn't recommend.

Biggest joke of a class I've ever taken. She's a self proclaimed philosopher of the highest degree and thinks she knows everything. There's no room for interpretation on any of her essays, so if you like to actually think rather than obey the law that is her lecture, don't take her.

Do not take. It is my core ethics and writing intensive. Worst decision I have made at Loyola. For a class that meets three times a week you write two 4 page papers a week. She has her own definition of what the philosophers are saying and does not actually consider other opinions on the subject. Too many papers and not worth the effort. don't take

I will just say do not take her and I'm pretty sure anyone else would back me up. She is a nice lady but she doesn't make this class a "101" class. She has trouble relating to people who have never taken philosophy considering she has done philosophy for decades. Very Nit-picky. Hope you have a good TA to grade you and help you.

She's boring and her class just drags. She's a tough grader and you have to work REALLY hard to just even get a B. She makes you write A LOT. There's a lot of reading that is really pointless. She has her own opinions and she corrects you in anyway she can. I never participated because of her judgements. DO NOT TAKE HER.

Definitely not a "professor" to take. Her objective is to make you think that philosophy is very hard to comprehend and you have to be a prodigy to understand it... Even though she keeps repeating that her students are all new to philosophy and they should not be knowing anything, she grades them as if they were very experienced. DO NOT TAKE HER.

HARDEST TEACHER EVER. she does a lot of lectures which are so boring and critical analysis assignments make up your grade and are impossible to get As on. she grades like if her students were grad students. definitely not a class to take if you want to just pass an easy core.

I like her. She's passionate about what she teaches. She does review discussions where you basically just bring in an outline of a critical analysis, and she tells you all the answers, even makes sure to answer questions and clarify everything before moving on. It's pretty much impossible not to do well on those if you show up, and take good notes.

I am not a fan of her. The notes she has on the board do not make sense and her lectures are boring. Critical Analysis are almost impossible to get an A on because what she teaches doesn't make sense. She also tends to repeat herself... a ton.

She is very good professor and greatly helps students. Stupid people beware, she does not teach down. In order to get an A, you need to be smart and put in the energy to understand the difficult material. Collins will stretch your brain and you will become a better student because of it. Taking her class one one of my best decisions at Loyola.

If you want to get an A, take this course over the summer with a different professor or at a different university. If you want to get a B, don't miss any classes, do all assignments and act like a goodie two-shoes. If you want to pass the course, pray to the philosophy gods for Collins' benevolence. You might get it, you might not.

I really dont think she's THAT bad. She spells out every little thing you need, and as long as you follow her guidelines you will be fine. You have to go to class, and take good notes, but as long as you do that the written assignments are easy. No tests and you dont have to do the reading, she goes over it all and she's always willing to clarify

Like others have said, there is no critical or introspective thinking except her own. There is no room for your own opinions or interpretations, and I don't think that is very philosophical. Also, the actual graded papers are graded pretty harshly.

Writing was too much, for not being writing intensive. She doesn't grade papers a TA does, there are no comments or reasons for your grading. Don't expect to do well, or atleast understand why you did poorly. She has her own analysis of the works you read, and no one is going to dissuade her from those. I am a Phil Major, and this 100 class sucked.

I have no problem with demanding professors. Professor Collins is not demanding, she is unbearable, contemptuous, rude and intolerant. She doesn't value critical thinking at all (least of all, critiquing her analysis), but rather how well you explain Hegel in her own terms. I've never taken a class with a more biased, self-righteous prof ever!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD GPA. taking this class is the single worst decision i have ever made. and i can't even just not go bc attendance is mandatory and if your miss 4 classes you basically fail the class bc the assignments are IMPOSSIBLE

Usually I'm pretty easy on my professors, but I do need to give this one a bad review. I felt like she was unapproachable and unreasonable when it came to grading. She also hated blackboard so I never knew my grade! I would work really hard for every assignment and still get less than satisfactory marks. Creative People, BEWARE!

Do not take. She knows what she is saying but the class should not be at the 100 level and she doesn't teach very well.
