Does Amory still teach at Chapman? I don't see her listed on the department's list of faculty.

leftest radical. she provides one view. hers. she also offered extra credit to our class if we would get arrested protesting the columbus day parade. no joke. if you like hearing one sided world views. go for it, she isn't a hard teacher.

A really great professor. I knew her when she was a graduate student at U.C. Santa Barbara. I've never forgotten her.

Yes, she's leftist. Yes, she's challenging. Yes, she'll make you reconsider buying those new Nikes. But whomever is turned off by her material will miss out on a great educator. Socratic teaching style, lots of reading, some movies, all in all a great teacher. The narrow-minded won't get far. those who want to learn will.

"Thank GOD" there's at least one non-mainstream/conservative viewpoint at Chapman! I love how people find this threatening. She's intense but the class is really interesting.

This class was ok. Shes not too bad her test are extremely difficult for essays. Just repeat what she says for the most part and youll do fine. People on here say shes extremely liberal but shes more crazy than anything else I never went to class and managed a B+ if that says anything

The most subjective teacher I have ever had. I consider myself a liberal but apparently not liberal enough for her. I wouldn't suggest taking this class for a GE unless your'e a sociology major.

If you think discussions on the evils of the tourism industry is a prudent use of your tuition money, you will love Starr. Her ideas are the same super-radical tripe you can read in any copy of The Nation. And remember your grade will be based on how well you can regurgitate this 'anti-establishment' byline. Don't expect to sail through this class.

I got a 91% avg on all tests but a B- in the class. If you don't like class discussions, this isn't the class for you. When I did participate, she rarely commented on what I said but just looked at her notes and asked if anyone in the class had any comments. She requires you to go to 4 community events. But tests are online and there are no papers

she has a socratic and democratic teaching style that will make you hate all your lecture classes. there were a lot of bitter people in the class, but for the most part nothing beyond McDonald's and a Chevy Silverado will ever make sense to those people. be warned - her stuff isn't for the faint of heart, but it's a revelation. Take her. trust me!

Those who ridicule her for being too liberal are oblivious to the wealth of scholarship and tutelage she can provide. She will challenge and amaze you if you keep an open mind. Take her class if you truly care about your place in the world. otherwise, enjoy your arrogance and your ignorance.

Simply put - amory is one of our finest instructors. I can understand why so many people feel threatened by her - she challenges her students to think critically about difficult concepts, which angers the short-sighted. Take a small class of hers and it will make a world of difference - that class will become a community. you'll love it.

chapman university is a suffocatingly conservative institution and extremely hostile to any critical analysis. if you want to take a typical chapman class where you can minimally engage and float through to get that easy A then don't take starr. but if you want to challenge yourself and really question the world around you, you will love her classe

You sit in a circle and listen to Starr and her chosen favorites rant and rave about the government and corporations. She is radically liberal, and to get a decent grade on her papers, you have to be too. She believes break-dancing and grafitti to be serious academic fields of study, which is quite amusing until you have to write a paper on them.

For anyone who has anything close to conservative views, or drives an SUV, or likes to travel: Starr will have it out for you after the first week. She is seriously from another planet. Typical lectures center around the evils of lawns, domesticated plants and tourism and it is all but impossible to get a decent grade on her papers.

Starr doesn't entertain any view points besides her own; she picks favorites; she is unfriendly and sometimes hostile to her own students; her grading is completely biased; my advice to anyone taking Starr: fall in line and tout her beliefs, otherwise your grade will suffer; the only upside: she doesn't take attendence after the first 2 weeks.
