Comment:
Do not take this class unless you already have a decent understanding of history. Otherwise you will be completely confused. Not only that, but he doesn't even bother to teach the majority of what's on his exams, and the terminology he makes you define is often the most random vocab from the book. And he was generally very confusing.

This guy sucks balls. Lectures are absolutely pointless and not helpful at all. If you actually want to learn something and enjoy history, avoid at all costs cause this class sucks. The only good thing are his mannerisms and appearance in general are ridiculously funny

Unless you eat sleep and breathe history, STAY AWAY. Relies heavily on class discussion but you have to read the the whole textbook to participate. CHECK BLACKBOARD he puts things for the next class up there and doesn't tell you he did and then is puzzled why you aren't talking. Lectures confusing, impossible to take notes. tests straight from book

This class was incredibly confusing. What was taught in the lectures had no relevance to ANYTHING. The textbook was only useful for the take-home essays & the exams were just terms and maps. If you can memorize maps, this would be a good class for you.

For western civ I, do not bother taking notes AT ALL. the midterm and final are just take home papers, a map quiz, and short definitions, so just study ALL the terms at the end of the chapters covered. Hood is a weird, weird man but hes def hilarious and makes the class pass quickly.

Hood is a pretty cool cat. He has these weird things he does that really make you crack up in class. His papers arent hard and the group projects are easy if you put about 2 hours a week in. I looked forward to his class when i had it.

i loved this professor. He was so funny just to look at i just sat in class and cracked up just looking at him. He trys to make the class seem hard in the beginning, but it is NOT. It was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken in my life. He is such an easy grader on the esays and the group projects. He is a MUST TAKE.. sooooo funny

Only things needed to do to get an A (I did it in 2008): 1-Do well on group projects, make sure not to read from powerpoints if you make one, at least know what your talking about. 2-Write good group papers, he's a grammar checker etc. 3-Study KEY TERMS from each chapter, he puts 10 on every test. 4- Talk in the discussion after group presentations

Chalmers is nuts. He has a wacky combover that never actually stays combed over. But he's a nice guy. He loves when people talk in class and visit him during office hours. Don't bother taking notes in class because they are not on the test. Group projects are really easy.

HORRIBLE CLASS! he thinks hes teaching one of his grad classes. group projects suck, you end up spending HOURS a week meeting with your group and he grades really harsh. sooo boring

I'm not that into history and I took AP euro in high school so I thought this would be a repeat, but it's not. He teaches on a less broad scale. Chalmers is an interesting fellow. He is a nice man but has really odd idiosyncracies. He is a bit hard to follow with his lectures. Don't read the book, everything you need to know is on the website.

Professor Hood's class is easy as long as you study. I got an "A" for the semester in it. Don't take his notes, because he tells you what is on the midterm and final. Group projects are grade boosters. As long as your group meets often, they are very easy to do.

Hood is a wacky guy. Like someone else said, he has NO concept of personal space, but he's not creepy. You can tell he loves what he does though. Group projects are easy and boost your grade; he tells you what is on the midterm and final so don't waste time taking any of his notes. Stay after and talk to him and he'll REALLY like you.

He does let you know what is on the mid term and final exams, but they are not easy.If you want to do well, you have to be willing to really work hard. I got a B on the final that I spent a week studying for. Do not sit front and center.

Crazy, funny, intelligent guy, but he didnt seem to realize he was teaching an INTRO class. Projects are easy as long as your group communicates. Lots of reading but some is interesting. Notes are useless, just use the study guide to prepare for midterm & final. Look out for the safari jacket.

you can tell he loves what does...the projects suck but they are a huge part of your grade so put in a lot of effort. The test questions come from the end of each chapter (the vocab) so don't take notes. (Ladies, he can get a bit too close so watch out...he likes to flirt!)

his quirkiness seemed more "dirty old man" to me, has no concept of personal space, don't sit in the front row. tells you basically what's going to be on the midterm/final. lots of reading for the group projects and class, notes are useless, don't take them. didn't like his style.

gives you a study guide for the midterm and final so you know whats going to be on it. Lectures are scattered and meaningless. The second half of the semester i didnt even take notes and i was fine. All projects are group projects. Not good at answering q's. Do well on projects + do the study guide

He's so passionate about history and teaching! He brings in great outside material, gives interesting lectures and posts on blackboard everything you need to know for the tests. There are three group projects based on novels like the Jungle which are pretty easy to do. He's such a celtophile!
