Knows his stuff, organized and ENTHUSIASTIC. Energy is contagious - he's the epitome of a prof that draws students in with dynamic expertise. Organized, uses text book, encourages student interaction, has lesson plans that focus on material but brings it all down to earth. Can’t say enough … seriously one of the best teachers you could hope for.

Great prof. He took a boring topic and kept my attention. His enthusiasm for the course is what makes it great. Runs back and forth writing things on the board, much better then the other theory profs out there who just stand and preach. Takes time to write useful feedback on papers- always willing to help you out. Very understanding and relatable

I enjoyed attending Prof.Powell's classes but GOD was he a tough marker. I would recommend him if your truly interested in the topic/class butdiscourage those who are looking for course just to fill up your schedule because it will drop your GPA.

He kind of reminds me of Jeff Goldblum. Stereotypical prof talking while lost in thought. Often pausing in lectures as if he has just realsised something. Very thorough...take notes!!!!

He is tough, really crazy about the material. Loves all the sociology theories and makes you write papers about almost every kind. Grammer freak, but nice guy and attend class and you'll do decently well.

Overall, a decent prof. Powell is hardcore into sociology and is deeply analytical. Course readings were pretty hard, but his lectures were clear and concise and helped to simplify the material. Tough marker, so prepare to work hard if you want a good grade. Attendance and participation is key...he keeps track.

Excellent lecturer. Very engaging and conducts the class well. Always excited about his work, very dedicated. The tests were essay format which personally is not my favourite. No one in my class this year got an A+. Thats because its virtually impossible to scrape up a 90 average. I recommend him!

This guy is such a hard marker when it comes to assignments and tests. This is one of the most boring classes ever. Due to all the crapiness, I dropped out of this course.

I like him, he's fairly young and he's passionate about what he's doing. A lot of readings, but the inclass discussion really helps to understand them. He's a really good guy so anyone ****ing about grades should suck it up and study.

I'm an A student and I found it an especially large amount of work to attain a B+ in this class. I guess my writing is up to snuff yet and perhaps there was a lot of competition because it was an honours requirement.. but this class made me feel really stupid. It's ok, Yay for classical theory O_o

Tests were extremely hard! His teaching style was okay; does not encourage class discussions and class always feels rushed (sometimes goes overtime); no essays; and he'll kick you out if he thinks you're being disruptive!

Yeah, his course was hard, but anyone who thinks sociology is supposed to be easy should suck it up. He's pretty into his work, so anyone equally into it will do well. If you're coasting through this because you're after an easy degree take something else
