Worst prof I have ever had, her notes are very un-organized she just reads them. She does not explain assignments well. Its either her way or the highway. If you don't agree with her thoughts and her personal opinons then your out of luck. The way she marks is quite odd.Lectures really boring! I would NEVER EVER take this prof again!!

raging feminist alert!I am also a female who is aware of the need for equality, but she goes too far in every study of every text. Not to mention every bloody text is about feminism. If I had wanted to take a women's studies class, I would have done so. I wanted to have some variety in my first university English class, but with Quigley, impossible.

Absolutely the worst prof so far of my university career. Her lectures and notes are so confusing and random there is no way to follow her logic. Also the highest mark on a recent essay was a B-, and only one person got it. Avoid at all cost.

Loved this prof! Very passionate and informed about her subject matter, and therefore able to quickly spot the bull****. If you don't care about the subject, don't take her, but if you like Canadian lit, she is excellent!

This class was so interesting. She definetely knows her stuff but understands that we're just starting to play with concepts and grades accordingly. Loves creative approaches and people who speak up in class. Only qualm was the heavy reading load, but mostly enjoyable!

Expects a LOT of work, and is a difficult marker to be sure. Sometimes I feel as though she expects the class to be know as much about everything as she does (which is a lot, as she is always very well-prepared and intelligent). HOWEVER - this is still one of the BEST classes I have ever taken, and I really learned a lot!

This prof was very feministic and you had to basically spew her ideas back at her in essays to get a good mark, don't even bother with your own opinion. Go to her office hours, she will give you lots of input on what she wants to hear in your essay. Over analyzes everything (very weird interpretations), I really hated this class with a passion.

She is very cinical, she made me cry in class because I disagreed on one of her ideas. She told me that I would never make anything out of my life. I wanted to suck on the end of a shot gun.

I disagree with the poor rating for Dr. Quigley. Yes her lectures may sometimes get dull, but she makes good points and the stuff she talks about is relevant for the essays you have to write. She's very helpful and she'll give you good hints for starting/fixing up your essay if you go to her office out of class. Class participation is helpful!

I think Dr. Quigley deserves higher rating than many posters wrote down below. It was a course that definitely required a lot of hard work and essay revisions to score well. But Dr. Q definitely writes a lot of info on papers to tell the student where to improve, what was good etc. And she greatly welcomed class interactions! overall, good class!

HAHA, oh man. Greatest class EVER!! So talking all class, not reading the essays, winging a group presentation and then treating the midterm and final essays like complete jokes = B!! BOO YA. However, she is useless, i'll give her that. But seriously the one assignment was way too long. And what is concision anyways??

Her lectures are a bit scattered sometimes, but she's very helpful if you approach her during office hours. Be prepared to work hard as she isn't the easiest marker.

She makes it manditory to do hours of homework after each lecture and she NEVER, and I mean never responds to your questions, or help. She is the hardest (a good essay is given a grade between 1.7 and 2.3) engineering english marker at UofA. In class she is very scattered and impossible to follow.

Ellen is the worst professor that I have ever had. If you want an interesting class, that is fun to attend DO NOT take her. She is very very difficult, her topics are very boring, and she is very very feministic. She does not gives guys good grades. I absolutely dispised this women. I hope she is fired .

I expected this class to go over a whole collection of women writers, but I found that that this proff focused on feminism. If your not into man-hating and lesbians, this class probably isnt for you! Also, if you dont have her oppinion in essays, your mark will suffer. Lots of class participation is expected.
