Truly an enigma. He's more of a preacher than a teacher. Just blabs on about things unrelated to the course, doesn't follow any syllabus, no exams, no mandatory assignments. Because there are no tests and because he doesn't mark assignments, your final grade is purely (and generously) based on the effort (work & attendance) you put in the course.

Comment:
Prof. Elliott was a very kind professor and very flexible. I think he genuinely tried to get non-math students interested in math. He was often willing to negotiate with the class about tests and assignments. If you are a humanities student, I recommend him. He can be confusing and off-topic but he is really nice and can be pretty funny!

A curious man, Elliott was spontaneous about every aspect of the course, including evaluation. If you're OK with no structure, his free-form style may allow one to think about thinking.

He was a 'weird' prof - BUT he is also the only prof who would make a math discussion fun! We actually had math debates - and while it's true that sometimes we veered off topic - I found him a way more effective teacher than anyother!

If you get past his befuddling nature, he has some intresting stuff to say, just not anything that pertains to the course.

I took these two half courses with him for 2 years straight before I graduated from U of T. I have to say...even though he is disorganized, but he sure doesn't treat us with bad grades...I think it is a good course to take

Elliot is the definition of disorganized. He didn't test or teach well. Also,I don't even think he looked at a person's marks when he calculated their final grade-I think he just pick a mark out of thin air and gave that to them.
