That said, I found his class entertaining and informative, although at times I feared for my safety. Awesome teacher! Sure his class is tough...but it is college. He is helpful if you are not scared to ask and he does not shoot down questions as some have mentioned instead he shows you were your answer was lacking. Overall his class is informative and truly the workload is not bad if you bother to work at all.

This guy is by far the worst teacher ever. He gives us an insane amount of reading to do and acts like its nothing. If at all possible, do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS MAN. YOU WILL REGRET IT. I have never struggled so much in a class. Whenever he asks the class some bizarre question, he gets pissed when no one knows the answer.

Very intimidating! He encourages class participation but the students get shot down when they give an answer. He assigns a ridiculous amount of readings that are not clear. The textbooks are not good history books. His tests and quizzes are all essay one big essay and 5 vocabulary terms. Do not take him if possible

Worst teacher ever. Readings are impossible. The worst part was though, he made us buy three books and have we used them so far? No. Our first test is on two online readings that the site makes impossible for you to even print out. He rambles on in class about god only knows what. DO NOT TAKE HIS RACE & GENDER IN LATIN AMERICA CLASS. YOU WILL FAIL.

Within five minutes of his class me and four of my friends knew we were dropping this class. He uses 4 textbooks (all over $50) and he drops you half a letter grade for missing more then 1 class. He is not a good professor, and highly recommend not taking.

This guy made us buy 6 books and write papers combining info from all of them along with several outside sources. He rambles on in class and talks in circles, while expecting you to also use what he says in class in his papers. I got a C in this course and NEVER had less than an A on any papers from previous classes. HE SUCKS!

Dr. Hirsch is by far one of the worst professors I've ever had. You haven't the slightest idea what he wants in your paper, and he's more of a grammar-nazi than anything else.He's out in left field as a professor BUT he's a cool person outside of academic context. Going to Peru with him was cool...for some people.

is this guy an english teacher or a history teacher? this was by far the worst class i ever took, i wrote about an anti-war group for a paper and used their slogan as my title and he told me it had nothing to do with the group. on top of it, he makes you put over 1000 years of history into the first paper thats not allowed to be more than a page.
