Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy FYS! This ended up being harder and more work than my science classes. Impossible to get an A.

Definitely an interesting guy. About 4-5 essays each semester over the novels you read. Definitely knows what he's looking for in an essay, but doesn't always convey it well. He usually overtakes discussion even though he says participation is everything, and that essays and pop quizzes have little impact on your grade. Not the worst FYS choice.

ProfV is awesome! We read 4 books first semester and wrote papers over each of them, which was the majority of the final grade. You have to think pretty deep to get a good grade. He said at the beginning, "I'm looking for a paper that catches my attention so well, I forget I am reading an essay." Keep that in mind and everything will go well!!

A very intelligent guy who cares about your success. You will do fine if you listen to him and actually submit good papers.

Vecera goes by the name of Prof V and he is one of the funniest teachers i have ever had. He cracks jokes about what he did in high school and really cares about the students he has. He assigns about 4 or 5 papers a semester and is a tough grader but the in class experience is worth it.

This professor does a very poor job at class discussion, often going of on tangents that don't actually related to the book and has openly admitted to not reading the material ahead of time, stating that he reads it right before class or the night before. If you actually want a class that improves your writing skills or analysis, do not take him.

Kind of an eccentric guy, but I personally found him and his classes to be fascinating. He reads really deep into the texts and explores ideas you won't see coming. Let's students dictate class discussion, which is fine because there's no mid-term or final. Just a couple of papers, and those are manageable. Weird guy, fun class.

He's a very nice guy, but not a great teacher. Class is almost entirely discussion-based, and they aren't very intellectually stimulating. He rarely has a lesson plan for the day- class is basically run by the students. Reading quizzes and essays are easy, and he's a decent grader.

He is a nice guy, but as a teacher his is not very helpful. He is an unrealistically hard grader considering the quality of his lessons. He never really knows what he wants to do for class when he gets there. He isn't very clear on assignments and he goes off on tangents a lot, which makes it difficult to get things done. I've had better professors

I don't buy into RMP too much, but I should have listened and avoided this class. He never once came to class with a lecture prepared and gushed and insisted upon a lack of a god when it was no where near relevant. 2nd semester had no common thread or theme. If you want to enjoy FYS, take something else. You have been warned.

BEST PROF EVER! all u do in class is discuss(participation is a big part of the grade)& write papers every 2 weeks, over the semester u submit 4 essay(4-5pgs)THATS IT! mandatory reading for every class but readings r super short & gives pop quizzes over readings. somewhat tough grader on essays but will easily bump grade if u put an effort in class

I always have looked forward to this guy's class. He is very animated and full of life. He shows genuine excitement about what he is teaching. Sure, he does enjoy going of on tangents every once in a while but they are usually intellectually stimulating or at least humorous.

Doesn't know what he's talking about, and has an undeservedly high opinion of himself. He wears cargo shorts, sandals, and a hemp necklace to class, and then demands that you take him and the class seriously. He won't grade your first draft of anything, he will simply tell you to rewrite it. He won't explain the assignment until the day it's due.

This guy is a total joke. I have had so many professors during my time at Butler and he was the absolute worst. He was not interesting at all. The best part is that he thought everything he said was profound. He was rude and unprofessional. He is not on the same level as the other Butler professors--both intellectually and professionally.

It was a fun class, but the way he grades is kind of impossible. He grades on content rather than quality of writing a lot of the time, which I found incredibly frustrating. You're pretty much going to get a B.
