Comment:
Niehaus teaches a very difficult class. He expects a lot out of his students and gives very hard assignments that require you to think critically and figure it out. With that said he is very helpful if you put in the time and talk to him. Go to office hours whenever you can. If you like statistics this class is super interesting.

Comment:
Don't take your spring semester senior year. Stress/difficulty of the class is not worth it. Pick another elective. Niehaus is insanely smart, but if nobody in class asks questions (which almost always happens) he assumes you understand. Group assignments are hard and have little direction. Plan on going to office hours for help. Curves final grade

Niehaus says that he wants everyone to do well in the class, however, he is a horrible teacher. He makes everything 20 times more difficult than it should be and ends up confusing the majority of the class. Don't take him if you can avoid it.

Niehaus is the smartest professor I've had at USC. This class is really tough, but he will make sure you understand the info and its real world application. Learned more in this class than majority of my classes combined at USC. Niehaus is a really amazing professor but you will need to work really hard to prove yourself to him.

He was a great professor who is tough, but really wants you to understand the material. He loves students who pay attention and show up to class. If you do, he will help you out in the long run. I would def. take him again. 2 tests and a final. Hardly and homework. Curves the test if class average is low.

Dr. Niehaus is by far the best professor I've had at USC. He is SO intelligent and wants his students to have a deeper understanding of the material so he is a tough grader, but he is always willing to help. If you're interested in RMI and are willing to work hard, take him. He's a highly respected professor and a great man. You won't regret it.

Comment:
Dr. Niehaus expects students to put in time outside of class if you can't understand the material. Although the textbook is not actually required, Dr. Niehaus wrote it and every detail was specifically picked to help prove a point. Ask questions and participate when he asks his questions class passes by quickly, and the formulas seem simple.

Hardest class I've taken here at USC. He gives two tests (one of which is the final) and a quiz. None of which are anything like the practice tests he provides. Homework are relevant until he starts using the @Risk program and then homework does nothing to help you learn the material. Lectures are long and boring but if you don't go you won't pass.

Very smart guy... great guy to know. Class and tests were hard if you did not go to class and pay attention. Very helpful and available if you needed to meet him outside of the class. Definitely not a class you can just skip, if you go you will do well in the class.

Niehaus is so hard. Tests are nothing like the study guides, they are not even worth looking over. Does these RISK assignments that are useless to helping us learn and really this is a terrible class. Good thing he isn't teaching it anymore.

One of the smartest people that you will meet at USC. Awesome class, but tough if you don't put the time into it. Don't miss class, take notes on the powerpoints that he posts, and pay attention. Tests are tough due to making the students apply everything from class without knowing the exact potential questions before class. TAKE HIM!

Probably the best finance teacher at USC. Incredibly intelligent, and well prepared. He makes the class difficult by not spoon feeding the information, but is willing to help you with anything. Take the class if you like learning.

Very tough class. Tests were brutal and practice exams didn't reflect difficulty of real exam. Very nice guy and goes out of his way to try to explain material, but just way too much material to cover in given time.

Couldn't help but like Dr. Niehaus; very patient, and skilled at explaining finance concepts. The amount of material he covered however was astounding! no one told him it was only a 3 credit class, felt like 10 credits.

Wrote the book. Pretty boring class overall, but not too hard if you actually sit through the hellacious class. Final exam is terrible and dropped me from a solid A to a regular B. He's willing to answer any questions and backtrack to make sure you understand; however, his tests suck and he makes you memorize formulas like crazy.

One of the most interesting classes of my college career. I have learned a whole lot from him. The class isn't easy, but if you put a little effort in and don't miss classes, you should get an A. Tip:go to the review sessions before the tests! He makes sure to go over problems that are likely to be on the test.

He wrote the book & also teaches the class. Not exactly helpful when you walk out of class having no idea what he talked about for the past hr. If you're not into math, AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. The class centers on formulas and graphs. Not exactly the most exciting lecturer. Make sure you go, though, bc he takes attendance daily!!

Some classes are difficult and time consuming because the teacher is a dick. Dr. Niehaus's classes are difficult and time consuming because of the depth into which he goes into the material. Most truly educational class I've ever taken, but also one of the hardest.
