Comment:

Hilary teaches this course in a way that makes it understandable to those just starting out in literary theory. Her lectures can be heavy, but makes the content interesting. A good deal of papers in this course, but hey, it's English! Feedback can seem a bit condescending when read but she genuinely cares about your development and success.

Comment:

Hilary teaches rhetoric with expertise, personal interest, and great knowledge. It is a relatively arcane subject lacking commonplace understanding, but Hilary makes it interesting and sheds light on the obscure aspects of rhetoric. She can come across as strict, judgmental, or aloof, but I have had the opposite experience with her.

HIlary is the worst professor I have ever had, I would never take another class with her. She writes rude/ degrading comments on essays with no explanation. If you dont write exactly how she wants you will receive a bad grade. I have taken numerous upper level english classes and this was the worst English professor /class I have been apart of

Comment:

Hilary is a great prof! She prepares her students well for tests/quizzes/exams. She is kind and caring and very personable. This semester, this class had a difficult mix of personalities and she handed it well- she tried hard to keep everyone respectful. Her novel choices were interesting and catered to a wide variety of interests and backgrounds.

Hilary is nice, but her class is extremely boring. The reading material is far from interesting and you WILL NOT get a good mark in her class unless you write exactly how she likes. She does not use class time wisely and does not explain assignments or criteria before assigning them, she is even vague when answering question. Don't recommend.

She does not outline what she expects from you in anyway, and sends extremely mixed messages of what she wants. If you do not write exactly in her style (which she does not explain) you will do poorly. She also provides little to no feedback of how to improve for future assignments. Horrible class

I really enjoyed this class. The stories we read were great, for the most part. The assignments were a little vague, but when asked for examples, they were given. I would recommend this class for anyone looking to take an interesting elective. Hilary was an awesome prof, and I would definitely take one of her classes again.

Hilary was a great prof. She fully understands that english 105 is a dull subject and tries her very best to make the class bearable. I hate english and not the best at it, but Hilary marks generously and fairly, she wants you to do well! Would take Hilary again if I ever needed an english class.

She can be very nice, if you agree with her. She writes unhelpful, sarcastic remarks on papers that in no way help you learn to write better. Very, very dull, unengaging lectures with the lowest, monotone voice. Overall, I would not recommend her.
