Comment:
Online ST 352 structure is reading the book and then doing homework, taking quizzes and test based on book readings so you are essentially teaching yourself. It's helpful to rewrite the book in your notes as a way of understanding the material. He tries to trick you on tests. If this learning style does not work for you, wouldn't recommend

Jeff is honestly my favorite math teacher I have ever had. I have always struggled with math but he makes it fun as well as sets you up for success. He is very understanding and works hard to help you understand concepts.

His tests took a SHARP turn on what he actually teaches within his lesson plans. I understand he wants to challenge us during testing but there really is no excuse when the class averages for the final was 71% and the midterm wasn't much better. It really makes it hard to score out of the C/ low B range for his class when he does this. Would avoid

Jeffrey has been a delight - which is saying a lot for an 8AM Stats class! He provides ample material to review for exams and assignments closely follow the homework. If you pay attention and review well, this class is a breeze. I don't know why some people dislike him. He's very sweet and obviously wants students to succeed. #JusticeForJeffrey

He is actually a really good professor and his exams and quizzes aren't that hard. He' s underappreciated, so that's why I'm on here to tell you that he is a really good professor. Plus he helps you out and wants you to do well in class.

He and the teaching assistants are helpful and help with any questions. There is a lot of homework, and the quizzes/exams can sometimes be difficult. Overall, he was great, and I was happy to have him for my second statistics class.

I took his online course and it was very challenging. There is a great deal over work to do but he is very accessible to his students and will help you anyway he can. Any questions I had I could email him or post and he would respond very quickly. I took him twice.

This was my second stats class, the first 351 I had with Julie. I def. recommend taking this class with her. Her tests were considerable easier as well as her grading for the free response which Kollath seems to grade much harder. The lab and assignments were easy, but lecture is really hard to follow if you don't have the printed notes.

He does a weekly webinar if you need extra help. There are five assignments using the R code, but the directions are very clear so it is not difficult. He uses Acrobatiq for learning paths which are semi-informative, but pair with the webinars and you will be fine.

Comment:
I have taken two classes from Professor Kollath. In those two the final averages were 58.5% and 56%. His grading on short answers questions is ridiculous. It seems like he just makes up what he marks down for and by how much. I am graduating so wont have to deal with him but his class and test are a complete joke. Also never responds to emails.

If you go to class and stay on top of the homework you will do great in this class. He explains concepts clearly and gives great examples to further illustrate them. A page of notes is allowed for the midterms and the final exam. The class is fairly easy if you put in some effort and ask questions right away if necessary.

He's a little older and doesn't like when people are on their phones, but he's very knowledgeable and sets clear expectations. He's nicer and more patient in the 8 am class than he was in the 1 pm. His lectures are outlined well and the labs are pretty easy, but definitely go to class for the clicker points and in class assignments.

15-20 minutes of each lecture was spent rushing through group worksheets and answering clicker questions, so we barely got through all the course material. Exams were more difficult than the homework and class examples. Overwhelming amount of homework.

Jeff is great at explaining relatively difficult topics in clear and concise ways. This is his greatest strength. His lectures have a great pace. Clicker questions keep everyone involved and paying attention. Pre-lecture "learning paths" were sometimes overwhelming as they were expected before 7am EVERY LECTURE. Stay ahead and no problem!

Seems like a nice enough guy but as a teacher his lectures are very dry. Spent too much time giving the class group lecture worksheets and clicker questions which took about 15 minutes out of every 50 minute lecture. Felt like I was teaching myself the material most of the time.

Jeff seems like a nice guy, but he does not explain enough in lecture for it to be understood on a deeper level. Tests are hard and there is a lot of extra work to do for this course and ST 352. I could not understand statistics with him as my teacher, the textbook didn't help and it was not required in the class.

Did alright in both ST351 and ST351. He can put you to sleep in some lectures especially if you have his 8am, but he has clicker questions in lecture for easy credit. Be ready to study a lot of the practice questions if you want to do well exams.

Homework was due the morning BEFORE lecture so it was the students job to learn "pre- lecture material" and complete the homework before class. The"pre-lecture" material was not followed up on in class. During lecture half of the class didn't know what was going on most of the time. Lots of busy work and homework. He is nice but not a good teacher.

Comment:
Lecture consisted of many long examples with multiple parts . No individual steps were ever explained, so it was hard to apply the process to other questions. If he actually taught the material and didn't rely so heavily on the examples in the "Learning Paths" it would have been much easier for my peers and I to understand.
