Comment:

Kirchner is OK but, ATTITUDE is her problem. If you have a week where you're too busy to practice and you come to class unprepared, she makes you feel horrible. She's very condescending to those who are behind instead of being supportive. If you suffer from anxiety or find your morale to be easily hurt, don't take her.

Comment:

Kirchner seems tough and mean but she's a total sweetheart who really just wants to help you. She says in the beginning of the semester that if you meet her half way, you'll do great. It's true. If you show her that you're really trying, you'll do well in her class. Great professor- I highly recommend her if you're ready to work.

It took until the last few weeks of the semester for me to like Dr. Kirchner. For the longest time, I felt that she was against me and that her dirty looks were staring into my soul. I figured out that she's actually really sweet when you work your butt off and put in a ton of effort. She wants you to succeed but she wants YOU to work your butt off

Two concert reports you hand in to her, you don't get back at all. It takes her more than a month to grade one page minimum paper in a class of 8 students, and it's a one credit course that meets once a week for 50 minutes. Not very approachable, as I felt like she didn't want to answer my questions. She doesn't reply back to your emails either.

IMPOSSIBLE!!! Please take the class with a different teacher if you can. She hovers over you while you play and hums along which doesn't help you at all. She is one of the reasons I dropped out of the music school. She shot my nerves and made me feel like I would never succeed at playing.

Comment:

Professor Kirchner was a great teacher. You might feel rushed to learn material but you must also keep in mind that the class meets only once a week for 1 hour. I missed one class and tried teaching myself the material and I wouldn't recommend it. Go to each class and be prepared. She will do her best to teach you how to play the piano.

I agree with the others. She is not a very good choice for this level of piano. Not helpful at all! She makes her students nervous and acts like a drill sergeant when you ask questions. I didn't expect an easy A but I expected more patience and understanding from an instructor of a beginner piano course. I have no clue what my grade will be.
